cost less than the last system, which was based on a Sun Solaris
That's a worthless statement. Unix (regardless of its source) was more expensive several years ago than it is now. And, the article mentions nothing about the age of the version of Solaris was that's being replaced. The longer you stay on an single major release of an OS, the support costs go up for obvious reasons. And, I can bet you that the USPS was not upgrading Solaris with each major release. So, this, in no way, proves some supposed strength in Linux.
But, in this community, the sun rising each day is sufficient proof of the superiority of Linux.
I had a couple different Palm smart phones before my iPhone. And, I can tell you, the easiest way to render those phone unstable was to add a third-party application. Even apps from respected developers still caused problems. In the end, I ran these phones "stock" since they had to be dependable phones above all else.
So, I see a good reason for Apple to block 3rd party apps. Given the popularity and visibility of these phones, they don't want non-Apple software products giving the impression that the iPhone is unstable.
And, believe me, they would. People add 3rd party software to their phones with even less discretion than they apply to their desktops/laptops.
In fact, the pope can speak for God if he wants to (Papal infallibility).
He's nearly as infallibility as Hawking! (or at least as infallibility as Hawking thinks he is)
Seriously, the Pope's quote was taken completely out of context. And it was probably done so for effect (sells books!). Without context, we can't really be making judgements about the Pope's message. And, you must not be Catholic either or you'd know that the Pope only speaks for God if he explicitly states that he's speaking for God. Again, there's no context to this quote to say that is the case.
