    Hillary blew it for Hillary. It had little to do with Obama. If Hillary had run a competent campaign Obama would still be a Junior US Senator.

    Obama didn't beat Hillary. Hillary beat Hillary. She and her advisers arrogantly amused that the primary process was a coronation and had no plan for the long haul. After they realized they were in for a fight they started making it up as they went along -- but by then they had too much of a delegate hole to dig out of.

    Obama's election wasn't driven by "small donations". It was driven by the fact that the country was sick of GWB and the GOP. Any Democrat not named Jane Fonda would have won in 2008. Obama's fund-raising achievements were very impressive but I wouldn't credit them with securing his victory.

    Timing is everything in politics. If John McCain had beaten Bush in 2000 he would have gone on to be President (and the last eight years would have been very different, but that's another discussion). If Obama had run in 2004 he would have gotten creamed.

    I think a nebulous ideal good that has no specific benefit to society should be compromised in the face of a specific, demonstrable harm adherence to that ideal creates.

    Using that line of reasoning we can gut the 1st amendment. After all, it allows the KKK to speak....

    It would create segregated pockets within the country.

    Those pockets already exist. They are just based on economic factors rather than racial ones.

    That was the 50s and 60s. Today is the 21st century. Do you seriously believe that a business that put up a "No Negros" sign would remain in business very long?

    Now, if you want to argue that there is some demonstrable good to society (that I admit I don't see) from allowing discrimination that outweighs the demonstrated harm

    IMHO, the "demonstrated harm" is irrelevant. If you believe in free association then you can't condone a policy that compels people to associate with one another.

    Businesses should be allowed to discriminate against black people. We have freedom of association in this country. That also includes the right not to associate. What are you so worried about anyway? No business that did this would keep it's doors open for very long. They would be boycotted out of existence.

    BTW, I'm not a "Conservative", at least in the current American sense of the word and I'm tempted to tell you to go fuck yourself for questioning my patriotism. I didn't attack yours, why are you attacking mine?

    I was just in eastern TN last weekend and saw a bumper sticker on a traffic light box that read, "Secession before socialism." I'm glad that the FBI is checking up on these things, because I have no desire to see any assassinations in this country.

    Wow, the nerve of that person to exercise his 1st amendment rights by having a bumper sticker that you might not agree with. Pray tell, what does such a bumper sticker have to do with assassinations?

    I'm also tired of hearing of people espousing sedition.

    This country was founded on sedition.

    I have family out in Salt Lake. I loved it when I went out there. The air was a bit dry for my tastes (I think I had four nosebleeds in two weeks...) but I absolutely love your politics and the fact that I was able to carry my firearm wherever I wanted without fear of breaking some poorly documented state or local law.
