    Then vote the incompetent idiots out of office, there's almost never a reason for more than 4" of snow to fall before the plows get to the main thoroughfares.

    Not all of us spend 100% of our commute on the main thoroughfares. My employer is located on a rural road in the middle of nowhere. If the schools are closed that road doesn't see a snowplow until well after 12pm. Ditto for a lot of the side streets in town.

    If you don't have the equipment and experience to drive on unploughed roads you have no business living in Upstate NY.

    Why would Google spend tens (hundreds?) of billions to get into a market that they have no experience or desire to be in? That's as silly as saying Verizon should build a search engine or Microsoft should build airliners.

    Hate to break it to you but the Democrats are the bitches of the MPAA/RIAA cartels, not Republicans. Republicans have their own corporate buddies but it's the Democrats that are squarely in bed with Hollywood and the record labels.

    T-Mobile is useless if you don't live in a major metropolitan area. I loved doing business with them but their network in Upstate NY is a pathetic joke when compared against Verizon or AT&T. Having great customer service and cheap rates is meaningless if you can't make a call when you need to.

    He's seriously misinformed. Verizon only extends contracts when you receive new equipment at a discount. You can change your plan up and down to your hearts content without affecting your contract end date. They even backdate plan increases (though not decreases) to the beginning of the billing cycle to spare you from overages if you ask them.

    Google and Apple are competitors and even if they were inclined to work together to get into the cellular business (which they aren't) what makes you think they could afford to buy AT&T or Verizon?

    Upstate NY. Summer up to 100 degrees winter -10. Snow fall can be up to 3 or 4 inches before the plows come by.

    What community in the United States has undrinkable tap water? I've never encountered it in all my travels. I have encountered it in Europe (Italy) of all places. "What do you mean I can't drink the tap water? Isn't that what it's there for?"

    Bizarre how the US can live with the thousands of nukes that the Russians have, but are reduced to a quivering heap of jello at the thought that Iran might, maybe, get a low yield nuke. The same BS was applied to the North Koreans.

    I suspect we'd be more worried about Russian nukes if they were sponsoring terrorists, shelling neighboring countries and sinking their warships.

    California is a "may issue" state. They can take away your permit for almost any reason they wish. In the 38 (or is it 40 now?) free states that operate under "shall issue" they would not be able to do this unless he was actually charged with a crime.

    Something about that just doesn't sound right.

    Naming our flag ships after politicians really pisses me off. Yorktown, Enterprise, Hornet, Saratoga, Essex, Midway, Samar, Wasp, etc, etc. These are all names that would make a lot more sense for carriers than naming them after not-even-dead Presidents.

    Comcast and Netflix is a peering dispute, the likes of which we've seen before. Can't say that I'm all that bothered about it.

    Tiered service == bandwidth caps, at least in my mind. That's what I thought you were talking about.

    Your point is valid but there was a bit more change from 2000 to XP than a version number.

    Dialup provides more (13 GB) than Verizon's Wireless (5GB)

    Their main competitor is Netflix, who SUPRISE, SUPRISE, they would like to run out of business by providing "tiered service". I'd say that Netflix's success shows that customers HAVE voted with their wallets FOR net neutrality.

    Net neutrality doesn't have anything to do with tiered service. Tiered service is completely compatible with net neutrality as long as it doesn't discriminate between different sources of traffic.

    I agree with you on your first point but that doesn't change the fact that Palin is an idiot. The woman was running for the 2nd highest office in the land and couldn't name a single SCOTUS case besides Roe v. Wade. Not one. Maybe it's just me, but I'd like my would-be leaders to show some familiarity with our system of government and it's history. I could rattle a dozen SCOTUS cases off the top of my head. Palin couldn't name a single one besides Roe? WTF?

    What "reactions"? There's been a whole bunch of whining and chest thumping. That's it. My Government hasn't even indicted let alone convicted Mr. Assange. The legal precedent here (going all the way back to the Pentagon Papers, look them up) is squarely on his side.

    The US Government doesn't have the authority to block any stories. Little matter of the 1st Amendment to consider. The US Constitution remains the supreme law of the land in America so I could give two shits what the UN tries to impose on us.
