    Dang.

Sounds like a job for VMWARE.

Both games are so old they don't need direct hardware access/acceleration (I hope).

  2. twinsen (LBA 2) on For Love of The Game · · Score: 1

Despite the 'freaked out' feeling you get when you first play DOOM (especially into the later levels), I would have to say the most siginificant emotional reaction I had was right at the end of Twinsen 2.

You work so hard at the game to save someone, and right at the last second they are taken away from you in a most gruesome way. Or so it would seem.

Talk about heart stopping. You feel so great, you just completed the big boss battle and your champ. And then your not.

That still sticks in my mind as the most significant emotional event I have had in a video game.

I still listen to the sound track from it and get little twinges of reminiscense from it. I think I need to dig that out again and play it. Hope it can run in XP.

  3. As a motorcycle owner on World's First Fuel-Cell Motorcycle · · Score: 5, Informative

I have always wanted a quiter bike. I do not like the loud 'like at me' rumble (which may exceed legal limits in many places) that some riders seem to like.

Now my 250cc Rebel (my firts bike) puts out 15 HP. So, an 8 HP bike might be a bit weeny for highway cruising, but this sounds like a great city bike.

In terms of noise again, bicycles and even Segways make no (or very little) noise. Its not the pedestrian who has an issue. Its the driver.

If its licensed like a standard Gas powered bike, then the driver knows the rules on riding and should not be endangering anyone.

I applaud this and all the other cool alternative fuel bikes. My little bike gets 70 mpg, and my biggest get 35 mpg. Not bad compared to most cars people actually drive, but they still add to the pollutiuon level none the less.

They have been at it for some time.

I use dto want to play this game too. Spent a lot of money (of what I could afford) on some gear. Closet thing I had to a mobile processor was an old laptop.

But at the time, display technology was below perfomance / dollar expections of the everyday man. But persevered I did. Even wrote a contact manager that runs in low resolution with a one handed keyboard.

In the end I made the same decision most other people will. For the dollar, you can't get where you want to be. The only real people capable of advancing this field are still the R&D gang and the college kids (usually the same group).

In addition, as mentioned by others, it hard to beat some of eht computing power availble in the PDA form factor (especially in Japan). I have been oon PDAs since the original PALM 128k unit. No need for a bulky monocular display hanging off my head, great run time, and lots of applications for the mobile user. And yet.. nothing truely pervasive as seen in the wearble experimental world.

  6. Have used Skype on Skype Vs. SIPphone - VoIP Compared · · Score: 1

Have used SKYPE several times now. Average session is over 4 hours. Never a drop. Great sound quality.

There is a glaring ommision and minor quibble point in the article.

Ommision: SKYPE is a HALF DUPLEX system. Your buddy starts talking and can get pretty choppy if any sound on your side is picked up by your mic. A good headset takes care of this, but my computer room has a LOT of background noise.

Quibble: Of course the volume level is going to be better in SKYPE: You running it through your sound card, which by nature has great controllable amplifier.

Obviously, that's no excuse for not having a better amplifier in the SIPphone. The audience for that product is going to have worse hearing in the long run.

Now if I can just get it on other platforms (like my Sharp Zaraus on WIFI). Perfect tool to maximize all those HOT Spots that keep popping up.
