DNS is useless without the pipes to transmit the data. Currently the major ISP create mutual love hate agreements to pier with each other. Arbitrarily giving anyone control of the DNS system would be a horrible idea.
ISPs for the most part decide what DNS servers are used by there customers. Most ISPs agree to use the same root name servers much like the agree to connect thier networks. But no one forces them, this is driven by customer demand.
This leads lots of room to block and cache any Name resolution an ISP or Country would like. Last time I checked the UN has no power to stop Genocide in its member countries. There is no way they are in a position to counter censorship acrross the globe.
I would think the color screen would drain a battery slightly more, but the default setting on most ipods shuts the screen off rather
However I have noticed with my own mini, the battery life is depended most on one varible. How often the microdrive has to spin up.
The major battery saving with Generation two of the mini was via a more efficient processor and chipset. However the microdrive still used just as much battery to spin up.
Since the nano is a solid state device the battery life should be much more consitent across variey of usage habbits and play modes.
Lots of people never want to admit this, however the desire for online porn and its extremely high bandwidth requirements played a large role in buidling the internet.
Porn Providers needed lot of bandwidth and large ISPs (The main backbone providers) recieved lots of buisness and money from these bandwitdh needs.
I worked for one fo these companies and at the time over 25% of our revenue was comming from porn related companies.
I would also argue it helped push home broadband services.
The nice thing is everyone benefits from the larger pipes the porn industry has helped to build.
So I am completely brainwashed if I do not agree with what Moore has to say ? I have no problem who likes what Moore has to say, infact I respect, for the most part, that he is not affraid to say what he believes. Its fair to say he has gotten bad press in the past, but also is regarded as a hero in hollywood.
But I do find it rather insulting, that a post calling "150 million utterly brainwashed" is modded Insightful.

However I completely agree that the abuse or iraqi prisoners is horriblbe. But people can do horrible acts, it happens everywhere. Including prisons, right here in the US.
Now that being said the US as a whole is outraged and this behavior was stopped, once it reached the appropriate people.
The sad part is the parent post does not appear to be as worried about the iraqis, as much as just happy it looks bad for the US/Bush Administration.
I trully believe we would be in a worst spot if Apple had become the dominant player. Apple wants to control both the software and hardware.
How easy is it to get G4 or G5 machine without OS-X ?
At least the dominance of Microsoft resulted in very inexpensive hardware that for the most part is a completely open standard. This is a huge reason that an OS like Linux or Free-BSD even has a platform to run on.
Honestly if Microsoft somehow dropped out, Apple would still not become the dompinant player, Steve Jobs would still have a very closed and elitest attitude, just like the first time they had a shot.
At this point A few flavors of linux would become the dominant desktop if Microsoft fell off, since the hardware is already arround, it has a huge buzz and all the major PC builders already have hardware that Linux runs on.
When I saw the first portable mp3 player it was extremely portable. The Diamond RIO was much smaller and lighter then the smallest walkman.
I always looked at the ipod as way too heavy and big, for me the ipod mini hits the sweet spot. Its got enough storage that I can have hours and hours of music and small enough I can actually use it at the gym.
Not everyone needs to have every cd they have ever owned and not owned with them 24 hours a day. I just want a small light durable, great sounding MP3 player.

The problem is most companies need to occasionally play nice with other companies in order to achieve there goal to make money. Microsoft does not, or at least believes they do not need to play nice ever.

They dance the line and for the most part can get away with it.(for now) The anti trust case was a joke. What can you really do to M$, the company has more then enough money to fight cases in court foever and pay any fine you throw at them.
Its not a fight that can be won via the court systems. So stop blaming the federal goverment.
And please stop blaming the bush administration.
Both the Democrats and Rebuplicans take money from M$ just like they both take money from GM and GE.
Can anyone point to a specific situations where, M$ really done to hurt any american any more then any other large company.
And lets not forget how much software they export.(which helps the US economy) Besides As much as I dislike M$, Microsoft does not have an illegal monolopy

However she did manage to get an education from an institution that was built from the US econonomy.
Funny she could deal with the enviroment to get what she wanted in the end. (An education)

I am well aware that other O/Ss run on G4s and G5s
But you are paying for Apple's bios and OS-X.
My point was apple will not sell you hardware without charging for OS-X. And you can not build a G5 system from of the shelve parts.
