Once again the media has managed to throw the insecurity of microsoft slightly out of wack. Please keep in mind that the windows firewall can only be disabled by another process/application LOCALLY. The command(s) {Three lines of vbscript code to be exact} can not be run from a remote console (including from another user with non-administrative privledges on the same computer.) With this in mind... with the default notification of "blah blah.exe has turned off the firewall for:port" is more of a assistance, then a hassle or security flaw.
When people invest their money in something that they think is going to be worth their while, they pay for what they see. Mis-advertising is illegal in this country. I don't see why the laptop company's aren't being sued. People pay for the name... not the performance... (that comes later... after the box is actually opened?)
All you home users still using 98, good work, 2k and XP is really over-rated. However, businesses & schools, If you guys are still using 98, your going to get your nuts stepped on. The security advantages of 2000/NT or XP are exponential versus 98's careless approach to any sense of security.
