Speaking of Circuit City, which store would people buy from if they had a choice... Best Buy Comp USA Circuit City I need a new laptop but I'm tempted to just get it from Amazon or direct from Sony or Toshiba.

Yeah, I have a Dell DJ and it's been fine. The musicmatch software sucked when I got it so I bought Dudebox Explorer and that works great. (MM didn't correctly handle track numbers of all things) My only complaint is that if it's locked and shuts itself down by timing out, it won't turn on when you press the power button. You have to remember to unlock it which just seems silly. It's frozen up once in the 6 months I've had it and I use it everyday. Cheaper and better battery, too.

Yeah, someone please invent this service. I want to send all important digital media (ok, family photos basically) offsite to a secure, guaranteed-to-be-there-forever hosting site that will maintain this data SECURELY and indefinitely. A digital safe deposit box that will be upgraded over time to current media standards. In 50 years, my grandkids can get access using holographic storage or whatever.

    It's an untapped market.

  5. Re:Tax cuts as spending? on Disintermediation and Politics · · Score: 1

Please share with us when the deficit is going to "disappear over the long term"? Maybe when the baby boomers start to retire in 10 years and the ratio of retired people to working people drops from 3.1 to 1.7? Just because we have economic growth doesn't mean we can grow out of a deficit, especially if the tax structure is highly flawed.

If the government taxes you less and spends the money anyway, it's your money (or your children's money) they're spending. Sure, growth *may* help but not with the huge shift in population age coming up.

The Republican party is setting our tax system up to destroy Social Security and Medicare in the next 10-30 years. If you expect to receive those benefits, you shouldn't vote Republican.
