  1. Re:This story was planted by the MS PR machine on Ballmer Beaten by Spyware · · Score: 0

"Increasingly, Slashdot is suffering from more and more of this." Or just plain suffering. /. is no longer a reliable source of tech news. It's biased and there's no verification of the facts behind the stories. It's Fox News for geeks.

  2. $ony is the electronics world M$ on Sony's Obsession with Proprietary Formats · · Score: -1, Troll

$ony is just like M$. They want to lock you into their formats and technology so anyone wanting to access that target market has to license $ony crap. Simple enough. They want our money and electronics manufacturer's money. No other reason

IE7 blows. As a staunch IE supporter prior to v7 I am totally giving up any support for the new browser and will recommend the same to my clients. MS's biggest mistake in the browser domaination game was developing IE7. Download Firefox my man.

  4. Re:My two cents as a Washingtonian... on WA Law: 5 Years in Prison for Gambling Online · · Score: 1

no way to deal with people who have gambling problems.... actually there is. The casino's share a massive problem gambler database and if you are on it you cant gamble. Sure you might be able to provide someone else's information, however there's no way to stop a problem gambler from gambling in a casino either.... and these days Indian Casinos are everywhere

  5. Freedom Costs a $1.05 on WA Law: 5 Years in Prison for Gambling Online · · Score: 1

Freedom isn't free It costs folks like you and me And if we don't all chip in We'll never pay that bill Freedom isn't free No, there's a hefty fuckin' fee. And if you don't throw in your buck 'o five Who will? Face it folks, America isn't about freedom anymore. Its about commercialism and greed, plain fact. We allowed our governments to slowly take away our freedoms and will continue allowing them to do so. Democracy is laughable and even more laughable that we are pushing it on other countries. I love this country, but I sure hate our governments.

  6. Global Savings? on Intel: Metal in Future Chips = Less Leakage (updated) · · Score: 1

With the massive number of computers today, wouldn't this have a dramatic affect on the total power consumption at any given moment? I mean, initially the impact will be less, but as the world replaces their PCs with new chips using metal switches, I would think this would have a substantial effect on the power grid. Additionally one would think this might also increase the life of the processor. They do not mention if this will cause an increase in the cost of manufacturing though. I would assume so since silicon is less expensive than metals

  7. Makes sense on Legal US Music Downloads Beat CD Single Sales · · Score: 1, Insightful

For years the public has been screaming at the ignorance of the record industry who forces us to buy music we dont like to get one or two songs we do like. I am a proponent of online music sales and maybe now that this in in place I will once again spend my money on music instead of replaying all those old 80's CDs and casettes :)

  8. I'm all for it on Suborbital Spaceflight Update · · Score: 0

WHat would today's society be without the private sector taking risks? I for one would love to have the time and money to be a pioneer in this field. Ya it's risky, but what fun is life without risks. If I died doing it then at leas I would have been doing what I loved, and possibly gain a name for myself in the history books. If I lived then it's very possible I would have helped set a precendence for future private space travel. All said and done I laud these people for their efforts. I hope all turns out well for them but I will still be supportive if there are disasters along the way.

  9. MS Index Server on Microsoft Looks At Other Search Engines · · Score: 1

Why can't they just use this to index the web? Seems to me that since they already have an indexing engine that they should be touting this.... isn't it powerful enough? I guess maybe they are afraid that it might crash everytime someone searches for "Slashdot".....

  10. PPC for $99 on GameCube - Doubles U.S Share, UK Status, Zelda Bundle · · Score: 3, Funny

What a steal, a PowerPC for only $99. Hmmm, what could I do with 5 of these? a $300 Apache web cluster, and a $200 MySQL cluster......... seems pretty appealing to me.
