When my iBook's hard drive failed after only two years, I decided to call my local Apple store to see if it was worth it to bring my computer directly to the store. I was blessed with a touchtone menu for a few minutes and finally got a human on the phone... only to realize after 15 minutes of him helping me out that I had somehow been redirected to the main Apple Care line.
Since I didn't buy Apple Care along with my laptop, I was charged $50 for the phone call, even though I had not intended to talk to their support team... unacceptable.
At $70 it seems unlikely that the mini-iPod, assuming it's announced tomorrow, will be under $100, but on the other hand the original iPod sold for the same price as the harddrive inside it.
If the harddrive costs $70, I don't think a $30 markup is unreasonable, considering the iPod (and the low profit - if any at all - iTunes) is really just a tool to increase Apple's customer base. They need to make money somehow.
I'm all for ditching the landline but then I'd have two mobile phone numbers. That doesn't sound very useful to me. Unless companies figure out a way to incorporate both numbers to ring on one cell phone, count me out.
