Sorry, but this sounds like the "we're losing because they are meaner than we are" argument. I have heard it from both sides, and it seems to me that both sides are pretending to be the only virgins left in the whore house. Yes, politicians can be very calculating when it comes to projecting 'outrage'. Yes, they may not really believe the arguments they are making in any given debate. But there are men (and women) of good will on both sides of most debates who honestly believe what they (the men and women of good will) are saying. They really think that the facts they are citing are the only facts that matter in the issue, and that the other side is just full of sh*t.

Read the book a few months back. The short version is that George Lucas (you remember him?) needed some quick cash for a divorce settlement sometime in the 80's, so he sold the computer animation section of ILM to Jobs and some investers. Jobs himself had little or anything to do with the creative end, but he was visonary enough to see where it might all lead. The guy can be an a**h*le (confirmed throughout most of the book), but he knows (sometimes) how to pick them.

You are actually proving their point. Both sides of any debate believe in their heart of hearts that they (and only they)are arguing the facts, while the other person is just dealing with emotions. Interestingly enough, both sides are indeed dealing with facts.....selected facts that bolster their particular case. Any contrary evidence is ignored. An emotionally charged mind is very good at filtering reality.

  5. BattleStar Galactica on New Battlestar Galactica - Worth a Series? · · Score: 1

Sorry, but I can not agree that this show was even remotely watchable. While I did watch the original show, I am not wedded to the idea that it is the "only" version worth seeing. However, I sat down to watch the new one and came away completely bored. They managed to ruin the concept(an interesting feat considering the original show was shlock sci fi at best) and I am at a loss to figure out how they managed that. It was slow, ponderous, and never really got off the ground. The space battle stuff was uninspiring at best, and the soap opera elements (son blames dad for brother's death ect....) made the whole thing drag for me. I could have gone along with all the changes they made to the thing IF they had done something interesting with it. In the end, I would have preferred watching some XMAS movie with my wife.
