Stupidity and short-sightedness inspire the invention of these devices. If any of you can reach back a little and remember when you were a teenager, being singled out for this new form of electronic abuse would be the perfect catalyst for acts of criminal vandalism and individual retaliation.
Lets play a senario out. Gang of teenage "hooligans" hangs out in an alley beside a shop owned by some older gentleman who installs this device to attempt to drive said teenagers away from his shop. Short term goal acheived, the teenagers leave his shop. The following day he finds his shop, car, or home ridden with bullet holes, bricks, firebombs, and the like. Has he really improved his situation? I think not.
If you want a teenager to leave, maybe you should attempt a little bit of reasoning and conversation before taking an agressive approach.
Television died a long time ago. About the only thing worth watching these days is NGC, DSC, and the History channel. Turning on the news I feel like im in the early 20th centry reading sensationalist journalism. It's insane the way they inflate stories, blatently lie in their coverage, report prematurely, and bring in their so called experts to give the non-free thinking man something to believe in. The so called entertainment is full of poorly constructed drama with non-intellectual humor injected in. Commericials are taking more and more time out of TV watching, the media has become so good at manipluating the human mind into creating images of corperations and products. Even in the childrens programming where they employ child psychologists to learn to best sell their products. It might be an element of aggressive business, but when does agressive business cross the line into unethical manipulation. This is one of the subjects that truely, I don't give a damn about. If the television is to die, let it die. In fact, I encourage people to trash or adapt their televisions for other purposes. So you know what, screw the TV read a book.
Obsoletism is quite relative when it comes to computing. Something isn't completely obsolete until it's no longer used at all. However I know many instances where people use older systems with bootable linux distros as routers, firewalls, webservers, and the like. Floppy disks maybe old, but they work. It won't be until the USB technology is expanded to the point that all motherboards recognize mass media drives in the boot process (in the event that the cdrom isn't working, or one isn't present such as systems employed in high security locations i.e. langly,White sands, etc...), will floppy drives have no use at all. However even then the use of floopys in older systems, and thin clients will still be relavent. Honestly I don't think that the floopy will be completely obsolete for quite a many years to come.
I almost fell out my chair from the suprise.
I feel so safe knowing that these people protect me from the "terrorists".
