(sigh). you know, it's funny that i didnt know that was standard procedure. here all this time i've simply been using install wizards that WORK. no recompiling the kernel, no compiling source. no dicking with console, wondering why it installed but didnt run, why i don't have x library installed, why the ATI display drivers STILL don't give me 3d acceleration, and my cd burning is jacked up. i KNOW that if i simply read and do some research i could figure out how to remedy ALL these situations, but here's the problem. i don't live in my parent's basement and have oodles of free time just trying to get my OS to work. i play with linux, but use windows extensively and don't complain. why?? because, unlike linux, it just WORKS. and it works when i need it to, so i can be productive with my two jobs and school and social life.
