  1. OT: Re:Who-hoo! Land of the Free! on Report Security Problems, Face The Consequences · · Score: 1

I had to go through C&I to get to my connecting flight at Schiphol (sp?) at Amsterdam. Very annoying (since my incoming flight was so late that I had 5 min to connect. blech.)

  2. Final Fantasy X?!? I wish... on Playstation II Launch Notes From the Field · · Score: 1

Well, we've got our Playstation 2 here at the office, but unfortunately I can't play Final Fantasy X on it (as the guy in the linked story suggested). Much as I'd love to.
    *sigh*
Still, only three weeks until FF9 comes out...

  3. (OT) Re:Why is spam such a problem? on Spammers Hit Wireless Phones · · Score: 3

Well, in the UK, people have to pay for local phone calls, so they have to pay to get spam regardless of their internet connection fees.
Even now, not everybody has unlimited internet for a fixed price.
Similarly, it is illegal for people to send spam faxes because the recipient has to pay for them (paper and ink, at the very least).

Besides, haven't you ever felt the thrill of seeing "you have new mail" and then been disappointed to see that it's just "make $$$ fast"? :)

"Real interesting a US SUBPOENA be delivered to a canadian and Swedish companies and citizens. DO they even have to acknowledge they received it? Anyone know international law on this one?"

According to one of the professors here at UVic (Matthew Skala's university), Matthew was advised by lawyers that just figuring out how the international laws apply will probably take the courts a couple of years.

So don't expect this to be solved in a hurry...

Hehe - I put this up on my screen and called everyone over - 'hey, look at this' - you should have seen the looks of terror on everybody's faces! =) Thanks for posting that, you made my day!

Now, if only I could get through to the segfault link... *sigh*

  6. media only, or average people also? on News Flash: Gamers Aren't Deviants · · Score: 1

When I see stories like this, I always wonder if the media is, in effect, making up their own stereotypes - AFAIK I've never actually known anybody who thinks gamers are deviant social outcasts. Could it be that these "conventional stereotypes" are just self-propagating media noise, or is it instead that the people I know are atypical?

Also, I found it slightly amusing that those people 'dubbed themselves "gamecentrics"' - when I'd bet it was the company itself that used the term.
