Writing a linux virus isn't and probably will never be impossible, but it would never be able to spread like blaster or mydoom, or any of the other virus that are reeking havoc on the net everyday.
What a load of crap!
Virii are targeted at the most popular platform, period. If the market share of Linux ever gets close to Windows, you'll see more virii than you can shake a stick at, that gets past every security measure Linux has.
It will happen, and it will happen because people already think Linux is more secure than Windows. Add clueless neophytes to the user list and watch what happens.
I use XP Pro. I run Apache, PHP, and MySQL on it. Still I see no need to this kind of shell.
Why is there a Windows compatible port?

I'm sorry, but I can't understand why a Windows port (even if not native) is even attempted. Seems kind of useless in a totally GUI environment. Of course, maybe it's just me?
I've been using the sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org combined lists for a few days, and copying the HELO/EHLO hosts to my incoming transaction filter. This method cuts down on spam actually received and saves me an incredible amount of bandwidth.
For once I agree with the law. While I was overseas in May of this year, I actually saw films that had been recorded via camcorder in a theatre. Sure the quality wasn't there, but it was still better than broadcast TV. Guess where they came from? United States theaters.
(And no, I didn't have the option to report the pirated films due to where I was located, which wouldn't have been smart.)
I used spamcop for quite some time. I no longer use it to filter spam from my server because spammers change tactics too often for spamcop to keep up.
I now use content filtering exclusively. What do I filter? Only spamvertized websites, the domainname.tld part. I only have to keep up with the websites, not the email addresses.
Computer: Would you like to play a game?
User: I want to play thermonuclear war.
Computer: Wouldn't you rather play a nice game of chess?
User: No goddammit, I want to nuke, not puke!
I've been running it on WinXP without any problems either.
Incredibly odd! I've installed Windows XP many, many times while hooked to a cablemodem and got absolutely 0 infections.
Of course, I actually *waited* until they were completely setup before opening any e-mail.
