It appears the status bar hack listed in the parents post also works to a degree in Mozilla under Windows.

Hovering the mouse pointer heralds www.google.com followed by the little box character.

For example, try to find a combination of GPU and drivers that is good enough to play linux games like Neverwinter and Unreal or emulated games through WINE that is 100% open. I'm not sure about Wine, but a 3DFX Voodoo 5 under Linux plays Neverwinter Nights and Unreal without much trouble. Under Debian it is a very simple matter of apt-getting the right libraries. Since the kernel module is included as a part of the 2.4 kernel, and that I have the Slackware Glide source, it is my belief that all the libraries and modules necessary for 3DFX support are open source. In fact, I consider the Voodoo 5 a great example of how well open source drivers can work. OpenGL support ended at version 1.1 under Windows, but has continued to progress allong with the Mesa project under Linux. When Neverwinter Nights Linux client was released, I was able play the game on my computer due to its OpenGL 1.3 requirement. That was a few months ago however, and I have replaced the Voodoo 5 with an ATi 9700. If I were to dump Windows today, I would probably remove my ATi 9700 video card in favour of the Voodoo 5. I never had a problem with the Voodoo 5, always giving me rock solid uptime, but now almost all of my Linux issues are caused by ATi's drivers.
