What you mean that googles desktop search found documents that had passwords, credit card numbers, etc, etc. Google is just exposing the incompetence of the application builder for not protecting sensitive information.

I think its the standard double standards.

But its the tricky question, at what point and under what circumstances do you say it is acceptable to breach someones pseudo-anonimity online?

I think the obvious, Spam, Kidy Porn and For Profit Content Crackers. This does though get into technical problems, how? What happens to those who abuse such a system?

I am though not in favour of this kind a vigilantism. Even if it is for spammers as how do you know the information is accurate? Your only going on their word.

  4. Re:Jurisdiction Clause in Microsoft License on EU's Mind 'made up' on Microsoft · · Score: 1

    short answer,
because in the EU its not US law that applies.

    long answer,
a license still has to comply with the law in the local of the juristiction it is licensed in. also a license usually mentions words to the effect of, if one clause is illegal then just ignore that one clause. this being to reduce cost in production, i.e. a one size fits all and takes into acount differing legal-systems.

but importantly you've got to remember that if you go or do buisness somewhere you have to comply with the legal system there. if you don't its your comeuppance.

  5. Re:OK then on Microsoft's New Core OS Team Learning from Linux · · Score: 4, Insightful

It might also be due to Linux Kernel developers not being directly controllable by other areas of development (i.e. projects). For example with the mingling in Win95 of Explorer and the Kernel, for usability and not considering the consequences of such a decision.

This is likely to be an attempt to minimise the undue influence other departments have over the Windows Kernel development team. This being a good thing as it tries to prevent the projects goals being unduly subverted to make another projects life easier.

It is however highly unlikely it will meet the same levels of independence that the Linux Kernel Development process has. This being on-top of the open nature of Linux Kernel development.
