I have Mac OS X 10.2.8 (Jaguar) and I wasn't able to reproduce the behaviour described in Max's security post. It *does* throw a segmentation fault, but nothing happens afterwards. Neither it writes a core dump file, nor does it give any root privileges.
Did someone with an older system try that? I can't find any confirmations that the issue exists.
