I can't think of a single reason why it should be a crime to grow & smoke.
A recent scientific study proved that it is not a so-called "gateway drug" that leads to e.g. heroin abuse.
George Washington grew it on his farm, what could be more American than that?
In the bible _kana_bith_ (cannabis) is mentioned as a component of the sacred incense that was burned in the temple. Shouldn't freedom of religion protect people's right to grow it?
Exactly! Bill Gates earns on the order of 10**9 dollars per year. The landscaper who mows his lawn earns on the order of 10**4 dollars. Therefore, being able to work without getting stuck in traffic is worth 10**5 == 100,000 times more in dollars for Mr. Gates, yet he pays the same in highway maintenance tax as his landscaper.
Of course it's fair to tax the rich at a higher rate. They derive more monetary benefit from the public infrastructure.
It's easy to remember the date of the battle of Lexington and Concord because it occurred the morning after Paul Revere's ride, and there's this nifty Longfellow poem which starts:
Listen my children and you shall hear Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere On the eighteenth of April in seventy-five Hardly a man is now alive Who remembers that famous date and year.
So the battle anniversary is April 19th, and is celebrated as Patriots' Day the preceding Monday, which this year is April 16th, and that's when the Boston marathon will be run.
Once upon a time, Slashdot was a non-political website that posted stories about the latest computer hardware, gadgets, and other aspects of geek culture. But that all changed when a Republican became President, and
and engineered the outsourcing of our wonderful nerdly jobs while giving excessively generous tax breaks to the Benedict Arnold CEOs who profited from it.
Apple used to be the "friend" of independents. In fact, I myself used to own a Power Computing Mac clone. Then one day Apple stopped selling Mac boot ROMs to Mac clone makers and they all went out of business. I donated my Power Computing box to charity and never bought anything from Apple ever again. Proprietary solutions don't interest me.
When I bought an MP3 player I bought a Creative Nomad Zen Extra 30gb player for only $219. I don't drive a new Rolls Royce, my 1994 Ford Tempo gets me where I'm going just fine. I don't own a Rolex watch, my Timex tells time just as well. And I don't own an iPod, my Nomad plays MP3s just as well. The difference between me and those that pay the brand name luxury tax is that I've got this pile of money that they don't.
> Are we saying programmers in the US are more innovative than Indian, Russian or other off shore programmers?
Yes, we're saying US programmers are more innovative because they invented Unix, Windows, TCP/IP, MacOS, Multics, Word Processing, Usenet, VOIP, WiFi, Slashdot, etc. What great software innovation ever came out of India?
We're also saying that it is criminal for pinheaded beancounters to stab these great innovators in the back for a few rupees more profit.
We're saying that it is not okay for a nation when its software engineers are forced to drive school busses just so that its CEOs can have bigger yachts.
I find it works better if you do hold your breath.

Don't Try Suicide
God is my PalmPilot.
What nonsense, there's a lot more to a person's worth than athletic ability.

It's called AOL, and people voted against it with their dollars.
My daughter always texts her friends when she's riding as a passenger in my car. That way she can have a private conversation and I can't hear a word.

It's too late for the Circuit City employees to unionize. Time to break out the flaming torches. Burn baby burn!
you are welcome to come to the US and buy memory and blank recording media without the *IAA tax.
Please bring some prescription drugs.
and you won't because you listen to and obey the Apple marketing message?
