  1. Address Book? Calendar/Planner? on Linux Tablet to be Released in Two Days · · Score: 1

This looks like a great product, but I didn't see any Address/Phone book or Calendar Planner software included with the software (did I miss something?). Any ideas on how/whether these programs might be available and installed on the 770?

  2. Check Out the Poll Results on Creationist Textbook Stickers Declared Unconstitutional · · Score: 1

What I found interesting were the online poll results that accompany the article, which divide equally among the two positions, approximately 40% each for "Yes, it violates separation of church and state" and "The board was right to put the stickers in, and the judge was wrong to take them out," respectively. To me - however unscientific the poll itself may be - this shows how polarized our society has become. It is also surprising to me that so many people seem to support intelligent design and creationism. I think this reflects a lack of scientific literacy among the general population, and a dangerous trend towards theological dogmatism.

Well, believe it or not, after my original posting, I had a similar experience bad experience with Zettai. I received a rude, arrogant, and frankly unhelpful response from their tech aupport when I asked them to help me with a LAMP problem (rudness and arrogance is never acceptable). The incident left such a bad taste in my mouth that I am looking into GrokThis.net as a replacement. Perhaps Zettai doesn't do well supporting LAMP (vs. Zope).

  4. Is Zope/Plone Too Complicated? on Two Books On Plone · · Score: 1

I've been reading about Plone, installed it on several servers, and doing some routine customization on one or two Plone sites. I have also been reading about Archetypes and custom content types. Honestly, my question: is Zope/Plone just too darn complicated? It has a lot of abstraction, but seems very heavy on complexity. I'm considering moving towards some sort of template-based PHP component framework as an alternative.

To me, Plone is like a huge green apple: you turn it around and around trying to figure out where to take the first bite. I struggled with the available documentation until Andy McKay's book came out. It is comprehensive, in-depth, and absolutely essential. At the same time, I definitely think *Plone Content Management Essentials* has a role to play. In fact, even for technical users and developers, I would recommend *Plone Content Management Essentials* as a good way to get started using Plone, before reading Andy McKay's book. For non-programmer admins, *Plone Content Management Essentials* is the better of the two. For programmers, you absolutely need Andy McKays' book.

I've been using Zettai (www.zettai.net). They are reliable, knowledgeable, and provide fast and good service. Highly recommended.

  7. Re:Supporting Delphi programs are expensive on Delphi Renaissance · · Score: 1

I've had almost the same experience. Now I'm an independent LAMP developer. Yesterday I had a potential windows client database project come my way. I spent last night researching architectural alternatives. I hate to admit it, but it seems like C# .NET is the best alternative for the client. wxPython w/Boa just doesn't measure up, and who knows if Delphi will continue to be supported by Borland in the long run. M$ has the monopoly, and I feel completely trapped into using C# and .NET. Ugh!!!

Well, how many civilians have been killed? Do you accept the claim by the appointed "Prime Minister" Allawi that not ONE civilian was killed during the recent siege of Fallujah? Nonsense.

Yes, the Lancet study has significant methodological prolems. The researchers had to sneak into the country to conduct their interviews serupticiously due to both the poor security situation and hostility on the part of the Iraqi government and US occupation forces towards any accounting of civilian deaths. That is why the US military does not collect or publish Iraqi civilian death statistics, and why the Iraqi government outlawed independent reporting from Fallujah during the siege, and why the US siezed control of the main hosptial in Fallujah at the start of the invasion, for example. The last thing the American invaders and their quisling puppets want is for the truth about civilian casualties to be publicized far and wide.

Let's face it, your dismissal of even half of the civilian casualties caused by the war is nothing more than apologetics for mass murder.
