I honestly think a lot of the hype surrounding it still stems from a relatively bored gaming community, both on the developer and player sides. Gosh, the wiimote sure looks awesome and it could be used for some really cool things, but it isn't something that is going to be able to carry a system long enough to maintain profitability.
When it comes down to it, Nintendo doesn't have a fully realized gameplan for this generation yet. Online gaming is still a complete mystery to them and looks to remain that way for awhile. Their product cycle will be shorter due to limited hardware capability and won't be able to sustain sales without launching out a massive third party draw. They need strong support from developers or it will be another repeat of the Gamecube, which was a fine system onto itself but was limited in what companies would port to it. So many titles never made it over for one reason or another and I fear that this will continue on the Wii.
Sony, believe it or not, still has a good thing going for it. Their last generation console sells, according to the NDP, are still in second place. They are still putting out quality games for it and it is pushing the system still, even in the face of smoother quality in visuals and audio. That's halfway brilliant on Sony's part. It brings in profit while their newer system gets past those hard first six months after launch.... near ninja edit... i just realized who im replying to. Drop me a line on my email address. We went to college together. How are the ferrets?
