  1. A couple of problems with this... on No Pictures, Thanks · · Score: 2, Interesting

The article mentions that only cameras in range of the device would be affected. What happens if I use one of the digital cameras with the 10x zoom to take a picture from outside the privacy range?

Does this affect ALL cameras in range, or only cameras pointed at the person wanting privacy? If it affects all cameras, how do I prevent the paranoid person behind me from spoiling my family pictures at Disneyland? If it only affects cameras pointed at the person with the privacy device, how does the camera know who has the device, or which way it is pointing?

As has also been pointed out, there's also the problem of criminals (in uniform or otherwise) using such a device to block the collection of photographic evidence. If a device like this does become mandated for all digital cameras, I can see a booming business selling privacy devices to those wanting to get past security cameras.

It doesn't really matter. We pay a fee on all blank media, and in exchange, we can freely download music, software, and movies - legally.
You might want to go back and check the Canadian copyright act again. You can find it at: http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/C-42/ Section 80 deals with the personal use exemptions. It specifically says that the exemptions only apply to musical works. Software and movies are not covered by that exemption.
  3. Re:Show me the numbers on Cooling Toronto Using Lake Ontario · · Score: 2, Informative

    OK, Here's your numbers.
Lake Ontario has a volume of approximately 1700 trillion litres. (1.7x10^15 l) The water used for cooling is then passed to the Toronto Island water filtration plant, which has a daily capacity of about 300 million litres. Over the six month cooling season, it'll warm up about 5.5x10^10 litres of water per year, or about 0.003% of the water in the lake.
Keep in mind that the normal daily transfers of heat into and out of the lake from natural processes are still several orders of magnitude larger than anything humans do.

  4. Re:Freaking CRAZY on Canadian Recording Industry Goes After P2P Users · · Score: 1

Just to give you an idea of how bad that levy is, retail prices of CD-Rs here in the Toronto area is about $35cdn for a spindle of 100 CDs, or about $0.35 cents each. Of that retail price, 21 cents goes straight to the music industry. The remaining 14 cents covers the retailer's profits, manufacturer's profits, and the costs of manufacturing and distributing the CD-Rs.
In short, the music industry is sitting back and taking 2/3 of the money from all CD-R sales in Canada, and then claiming that using those CD-Rs to make copies of music is theft. I think that somone needs to review their definition of theft.

Why does a rocket have to be either solid or liquid fueled? Why not a hybrid?
Use a solid booster core containing fuel only, and pump in oxidizer. Alternatively, have a solid oxidizer and pump in fuel.
It shouldn't be too hard to find a combination that works.
A Hypergolic combination is also probably possible.
A combination of solid fuel and liquid O2 oxidizer is also handy in that the oxidizer could be used as an emergency oxygen supply for life support.
