I paid $300 for the Playstation, and it was well worth it. $370, while making the Playstation 2 one of the more expensive consoles, is justified for the amount of technology in the thing. You're getting a DVD player, and the most powerful video game device ever (well, PCs will probably have surpassed the PS2 by the time it comes out, but not by much).
Look at it this way. To get the equivalent of a PS2, I'd have to buy the lates in PC 3D graphics technology, processors, and sound. Let's say that I could put this together for around...$1500.So, with the PS2, I'm getting EQIVALENT technology for $370. Probably be cheaper than that by the time it comes to the US.
I don't know man, that sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
No, the Dual Shock 2 doesn't have 'analog buttons'. IIRC, the difference between the dual shock and the Dual Shock 2 is the Dual Shock 2 has 2 levels of 'vibration' for games that support it. Or something like that.:) But it's definitely not about analog buttons.
I, for one, can't stand Jon Katz. I don't read his stuff anymore, though I do skim through it for laughs.
Writers/reporters that don't actually report news, but instead talk about the 'effect' of the news reports/the media on our culture need to get a real job.
For the heady days of Joel. I used to love that show, and I even got to see the very first MST3K Live! event in Minneapolis at the Uptown theater. But the show needed to end. Mike was never close to as amusing as Joel (in fact, i never have watched an entire 'Mike' episode), and then TVs Frank left, and..what was left? Nothing. Keep circulating the tapes!
So overkill is okay? Efficiency is a secondary consideration? This from the the same crowd (Linux users) that like to brag about being able to host a website on their 486 DX2/66 while the Windows NT boys need Pentium Pros/2's to see decent performance?
I always thought Slashdot was frequented by people that were into using the right (command-line, GUI-less) tool for the job?
There are maybe a few thousand people in the world that actually need a Palm Pilot. I firmly believe this to be true. Just like there are maybe a few thousand people in the world that actually need to create PowerPoint presentations. Its all about the *perception* of being important and/or productive and 'cool'. Its just like the so-called Sport Utility Vehicles. How many people that own one actually have driven it on anything but pavement? I love technology, but I hate 'overkill' technology. And thats what the Palm Pilots are. For most people, a paper notebook would be better.
Yeah.
My mistake. That'll teach me to not do my research before I start spewing pseudo-facts.

The caching problem only occurs with the VX chipset. And maybe the TX. But if you get an HX board, no problem.

How do you maintain a clean room at a smart dust fab?
Sorry.

*sarcasm added for effect
