Reagan did run up the debt astronomically. And no, I don't support that. I also wouldn't have been thrilled with the Sovs taking over Europe. Tough times and all that.
I seriously doubt most of that money went to any form of military buildup, though. My understanding is that the biggest federal government expenditure in the US is Social Security?
No, I mean a party that got the most votes didn't win. The Liberal Party here in BC got more votes in the last election than the NDP, but the NDP won. The Liberals won a few seats by huge margins, while the NDP squeaked out more seats with lower margins.
SDI did what it was supposed to do. It forced the Soviets to give up on the cold war. They finally figured out the US could massively outspend them, without forcing their population into food lines.
Who care it it would work technically? It did the job.
Look, I have no doubt that innocent people have been put to death in Texas. But you still can't tell me who they were. And to suggest that more than a small fraction of those on death row are innocent is ludicrous without evidence.
> It's not much more likely to actually be guilty
>however.
People keep saying things like that, but no one can point to any of the people sentenced to death in Texas and say "Him. He's innocent, and here's how I know".
Not that I'm all that comfortable with the death penalty, but at least have _some_ facts before making stupid statements like that.

Ah, no. They weren't. Asteroids the size of the one that hit 65 million years ago mass billions of tons. They're the size of mountains, or larger. They don't burn up in the atmosphere (since it only takes them a few seconds to pass through the atmosphere). Hell, the big ones would go right through the ocean and well into the ocean floor.
I've used IE maybe a dozen times. It's crashed within 15 minutes for me every time I've used it. This includes 5.5 on a couple of machines. It always takes out the desktop and usually requires a reboot to completely clear.
Navigator I can at least go maybe a couple of hours with before it crashes (days sometimes with Java turned off).
I doubt those stats are even available. They would almost certainly show that the vast majority of teen violence occurs between non-white gang members in major cities, where it is already totally illegal for anyone other than cops to carry guns.
Neither fact would be politically correct to point out.
The President, at least, does swear something very much like that when he takes office. Sadly, most presidents since FDR at least have instantly forgotten that oath once in office.

Yeah, that's a great idea. Then maybe they could extend it to taxing us to feed, clothe, house and educate all the world's citizen's, too. In 10 years, we'll all be third world citizens. But like good socialists, we'll be much happier because everyone's equally poor.
Hey, it's worked so well in the past, let's try it on a global scale!
Of course not. The population is _increasing_ faster than we could ever hope to ship people off.
Colonization is expansion, and covering our collective asses in case something happens to Earth. Promoting it as a way to escape a polluted Earth is crazy.

Hey, you should try it up here in Canada. My Income Tax rate alone is over 40%. My total tax burden has to be close to 70%. I make more than 97% of the population and still can't afford to buy a house anywhere close to where I work. Once my wife finishes school, we'll probably move to one of the lower tax states - there's just no way to get ahead up here.
On the plus side, if I were to ever get sick, I would not have to pay to sit in line and die in the underfunded public health care system. I can drive anywhere I want (paying something like 60% fuel taxes) on an underfunded road network that is bumper-to-bumper 50% of the time. And I can always turn on the TV and see yet another rent-a-mob campaigning for increased government spending for their pet project of the week.

Sad.

It's happened in Canada, too.
Yeah, there's going to be some tediousness. I'm about halfway through BG2, though, and it hasn't got boring yet ...
Yeah, bad hardware will kill you. Unfortunately, IE crashes consistently on lots of different machines for me ...

Hell, a hundred and fifty years ago the Republicans were the third party. Sometimes change can happen.

too bad it's only 2% of your population in jail (still a whopping 2 million prisoners, more than any other country, but still ...)
make money fast

Actually, that is not saying much of anything. What little information its trying to impart is called "lying".

Get Baldur's Gate 2. BG2 has up to 200 hours of gameplay in it, all excellent D&D action.

And of the course the government should steal another x% of the GDP in taxes to pay for this in their usual incredibly efficient manner.
Give me a break.
And if you're lucky, one of them might even know enough to install NT and IIS and get the site up and running.
Of course not. The population is _increasing_ faster than we could ever hope to ship people off.

nah, Waterworld will still suck ;)
Once the ozone layer's gone, the UV should do the trick. Might be hard finding something to eat while we're waiting out the changes, though.

Sigh.
There's currently a 4-6 month wait in BC for ADSL. Telus has been completely unable to keep up with demand.
;)
On the plus side, once you get it, it's great
