When i ordered my laptop i HAD to buy windows XP HOME with the package, which I don't even use. Instead I use XP prof, which is a pirated copy. MS forces me to buy shit I don't want, then wants more $$$$ for a different version in order for me to be legit?
Blocking users from updating pirated copies of windows will just force some people to switch even more so to linux. The only reason I currently use windows is for gaming, just give me another reason not to support winblows and I will delete all my NTFS partitions.
Your examples aren't very good ones, except for perhaps photoshop CS, which buy the way is expensive, not free like gIMP.
Media player is bogus bloatware, i don't like something that takes up 40% of resources just to play an mp3. What i use for an alternative is BSPlayer in windows for movies (divx).
For me the only thing keeping me from deleting my windows partition altogether is gaming and dreamweaver.
This is like trying to charge all Canadians for copying audio cassette tapes. The CRIA needs to go bark up another tree, or even better, adjust to technology.
