No more no less. If I can take a PowerPoint presentation, edit the parts that come from excell and Word, repackage it and send it to my associate across the world who is using Microsoft and He/She can open it, read it and use it without having to stand on thier head (or me mine) then and only then will I switch my company to Linux. My secratarial personell, auditing dept and Sales staff are not computer guru's but they do need and use them extensively. I've got a Linux box or two at home (Actually I think it's 3 but one is belly up due to hardware biting the dust) I also have a FreeBSD system for my corporate Intranet and Internet. (It can't be beat for robust and secure behavior one server has I believe 525hrs up without a reboot and the last reboot was due to a system upgrade) However I use and probably will continue to use Windows95/98 as well as Mac OS 7&8 simply because despite the FUD to the reverse, they work, in fact if you really want to know the truth I havent found a piece of software that was worth a dang since HDD's came on the market.

What's even more important is that you get your shite together on the business plan. DON'T leave any stone unturned in creating a solid and comprehesive plan. This plan once created (and dated) can become your proof that you created this idea and when. The worry is not that VC's will steal your idea, they don't have time to develop stolen ideas. The worry is that you won't be able to convice them that you have a viable product. This is where the Business plan is vital. We just got 2 million in start up capitol because even though my bosses English isn't the greatest (He can code but forget spelling) it was so complete in facts and details that it blew them away. I'm on a 1.5mbps down 728 up adsl connection AMD 450 CPU 100mhz bus on a 10mbps ethernet (Note I'm currently the only computer in up the office, it's Sunday) and I can't recieve the video smooth enough to watch it. (Unless I download the entire video stream first to my hdd.) Then of course once you've downloaded the video it's yours to keep right? I see a tonne of copywrite problems here. In fact as far as I can tell it's sortof a cross between AVI and MOV files. The Alanis Morrisette video took about 2.5 minutes to buffer on my connection and about 30 secs to play that buffer and begin breaking up. The video is clear, large and the sound is fairly good quality. It also says on the site that a 256k minumum line is needed. So that immediately means that if you are the average modem or cable modem user (most cable modems I've seen are limited to either 128k or 256k download speed even though they should be faster) You're not going to be able to view the concert. So in other words it's slightly less than vaporware. Not to mention I've now got some huge downloads on my hdd (about 200megs all total) In short I wouldn't hold my breath on this one. Some great ideas on the interface. Some really neat buttons that maybe might someday do something. But that's about it. I think I had better buy tickets because the net isn't the place yet. Now if they had, had Hazardous Media and Sokol and Assoc, do it like with HALS birthday and Eden Fest the picture would have been smaller but at least you could have watched it. Sorry if I bored anyone with the eval but it's in the blood. I do this for a living.

Still can't run java applets on Netscape for linux (works fine in windblows not on Linux. I've never lost my mouse or my keyboard though. In fact I've found that crashing X or Linux takes some effort. My job entails trying to crash systems. A lot of what I've learned is that most of the time unstable systems come from unstable setup's or people trying to "outthink" Linus and his crew. What I've found is the following. Keep /root directory and the / directory at 60% or less capacity. If you do it really makes the system stable. One of the ways to do this is to make the /home directory act like it does in FreeBSD. Home is in /usr/home and the /home is just a symlink. Most of the instability I've encountered seems to lie in just this area. Nutscrape then becomes the only unstable element in what is otherwise a very stable system. Second, watch your hardware. Bleeding edge is by definition unstable. Many of the problems I encounter in testing has to do with the fact that the manuals etc on the hardware aren't matching the actual figures on some of the bleeding edge stuff (shure the two chips are the same under windows but the bios and linux see the real difference) Example AMD 450's have two different voltage settings 2.2 and 2.4 the manual doesn't recognize the lower setting. But it does make a difference in cpu performance if you get it wrong. Check your settings. Remembering just because you can change it doesn't mean you should. And if you do leave yourself a way to "unchange" what you did. It's a system not a standalone.

Hopefully this can be seen and Hopefully it doesn't settle out of alignment with the cable below. Third most cable cuts I've seen were not the result of direct contanct with the cable by the backhoe but rather the result of mud and rock slides/shifts due to digging near them. Cables aren't and can't be that strong. More so pulling a cable isn't as easy as you make it sound. This isn't a piece of thread It can weigh several tons (tonnes) and requires heavy equipment to pull it through a pipe.
