I could better manage my own money for retirement. If I were to blow my money on useless crap during my lifetime and didn't have any money for my retirement then that's my fault, let me cook in my own pudding. Don't bail me out because I was stupid for not planning for my own retirement. Think about this, what did people do when there was no Social Security.
If people want to blow their money on the slots in Vegas then let them, people need to be accountable for their actions of not saving some money for retirement. Not once did our founding fathers say that we need "Social Security" because "The people are too stupid to take care of their own retirement." People shouldn't have a safety cushion of Welfare to fall upon after they've blown their retirement money. Yes, I think that we should keep up the payments to people already on social security and very near retirement but I also think that it's time to get the government out of our collective pockets. The government needs to allow those of us who want to redirect our own money to save for our own retirement let us do it instead of throwing it down the stinking toilet that is Social Security.
It's not up the government to tell me to save my money for retirement, it's up to me to save for retirement. So what's the alternative? Raise the retirement age? If you do that then the government is betting that you'll die of old age before you get to collect their so-called retirement. OR just follow the Dems plan of "wait and see". Well I'm not willing to wait and see. I want action now! I think the Republicans have a better grasp on the Social Security problem and I don't want to wait and hope (as the Dems do) that Social Security will still be there when I finally retire.
I say deep six Social Security for those who are not near retirement or are already on Social Security and create personal retirement accounts in it's place. Remember folks, the "Social Security Trust Fund" doesn't exist. There is a Social Security crisis because it is mearly bunch of badly managed government IOUs without a snowball's chance in Hell of being saved.
You've hit the nail on the head. If the U.N. would not/will not do anything about Saddam and other terrorists (i.e. the U.N. itself) then who actually believes that they'll do anything about spammers. As a U.S. citizen, I say let's stop paying the U.N. dues and put that amount towards paying off the U.S. debt.
The Bible is factual, no other book has undergone the scrutiny of textural criticism and authenticity as has the Bible. Archeology proves what was written 2000 years before Christ is indeed *gasp* historical fact.
Many corners of the planet have a flood myth too. That does NOT mean that Noah's myth is a historical fact.
Hmmm. So what you're saying is if John/Jane Doe out here in slashdot land only read of your existance but really didn't believe in it then your existance may not be historical fact. Wow! I wished I'd thought of that! Oh my, then I may not exist either! *poof*
Of course. So was EVERYBODY ELSE AT THE TIME. Duh.
Sorry, that argument doesn't fly. There were just as many people then who were not creationists as now. One could hardly argue that everybody, at the time, was a creationist.
I find it extremely interesting that many refuse to look at the information presented. The number of scientists, present day and past, who reject evolution do so due to the fact that it is scientifically unprovable. These scientists still outnumber, by far, those who support evolution. This is driven home by the fact that many of these anti-evolution scientists are not even creationists.
point with the example of Professor Stone. Yes, Professor Stone is only one example in tremendous number of scientists who believe in creationism. The point is that even they know that evolution is not scientifically sound. I'm not trying to force my beliefs or views on people. I'm trying to provide information that counters the junk science that is called evolution.
What One Famous Scientist Said About Evolution
"One morning I woke up and something had happened in the night, and it struck me that I had been working on this [evolution] stuff for twenty years and there was not one thing I knew about it. That's quite a shock to learn that one can be so misled so long. Either there was something wrong with me or there was something wrong with evolutionary theory. Naturally, I know there is nothing wrong with me....."
"[The] question is: Can you tell me anything you KNOW about Evolution? Any one thing? Any one thing that is true? I tried that question on the geology staff at the Field Museum of Natural History and the only answer I got was silence. I tried it on the members of the Evolutionary Morphology Seminar in the University of Chicago, a very prestigious body of Evolutionists, and all I got there was silence for a long time, and eventually one person said, "I do know one thing - it ought not to be taught in high school"." -- Part of a keynote address given at the American Museum of Natural History by Dr Colin Patterson (Senior Palaeontologist, British Museum of Natural History, London) in 1981. Unpublished transcript.
A quote from Professor Stone...
"If you define science as repeatable, reliable, observational fact, it's obvious that Evolution doesn't really qualify as science. People make these huge jumps; they see these tiny changes happening today, and so they conclude that all life forms have arisen from chemicals by a continuous process over millions of years. That's not science, that's belief." [CEN, Vol. 20, No. 4, 1998 p:52] -- Dr Brian Stone (Australian Professor of Mechanical Engineering)
...and another list of links that I published earlier today. Be sure to pay close attention to the first five set of links on the page. See my earlier post.
May God bless you and Trode, I'll keep both of you in my prayers.
Stitch_626...I don't worry about being ripped, I just spread the good word. At least I'm trying to do them a favor to try and save them from the second death. If they don't want to listen then fine, it's their loss, at least I tried.
Unfortunate, you could learn a lot from us creationists. Oh and by the way, creationists are not only located the U.S. but all over the world. Did you know that the "fathers" of many significant branches of modern science were creationists?

Actually evolution is a myth, it's made up science. Don't believe me? Prove me wrong then. I'll pit the Holy Bible against the theory of evolution or "The Big Bang" any day. Yep, yet another example of junk science just like Global Warming.
Before you people get started...This post is not an attempt to start a flame.
Oh the sky is falling!!!! The light is dimming!!!! Oh raise the alarm the world is ending...
Mod me as a troll if you want but is this really science or more junk science? I say it's all bunk. "Still, the dimming trend -- noticed by a handful of scientists two decades ago, but dismissed at the time as unbelievable -- is now attracting wide attention." How can they prove this, a bunch of sensors and about 50 years of collecting data? Most "scientists" don't take the time to account for natural events and/or disasters such as forest fires, volcanoes, etc. Nope I don't believe this "dimming" crap one bit. All some "scientists" want is recognition for bull crap junk science that doesn't mean anything.
While I'm at it...let's not forget the enviro-terrorists that claim the theory of "Global Warming" is true. One thing I've noticed is that people talking about the environment tend to make things up as they go. If environmentalists were really looking after the environment they wouldn't....Use/buy computers, TVs, cars, clothes, food, burn or use any sort of fuel, etc. Nope, can't use solar cells or windmills, dams, etc. Environmentalists shouldn't build fires unless there's a natural one burning already...and so on...
Anyway...I still say it's all bull crap and junk science.
"I felt a great disturbance in the Force. As though millions of processes cried out in terror and then suddenly halted."
