Further to the comments on RF interference. Don't all the components in a machine connect themselves to common ground via the metal case? I'm sure that major problems would occur if differing charges were allowed to build up on components. I can almost see the hard disc arcing across the motherboard... Maybe some investigation into grounding would be useful too...
