What it matters is that it gets done. Patents exist for a limited time frame. Now there's a lot of economic harm that can happen in that time frame, but the hypothetical argument is that the long-term consequences of new ideas fostered by patents are positive.

Are they actually beneficial? I'm as skeptical as anyone about it, and don't know how you'd even begin to measure it.
But patent trolls being forced to design and build things? That is an undeniable situational improvement over the status quo.

Oh you mean "gamers"? You misread that, doofus. Try again it says "Gamer culture." A culture can have attributes, even if they don't map to all(or even most) members of that culture, a common point you have to raise from the OTHER side when people condemn an entire culture as being bad or evil. Which is not what anyone is saying here.

Because a culture is, by definition: "The totality of socially transmitted behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought."

I'm terribly sorry to say that misogyny is a visible behavior pattern without the gaming community.

Or if you don't like that one, and think I'm cherry picking: "These patterns, traits, and products considered as the expression of a particular period, class, community, or population"

But genuine concern for "the state of games journalism" just doesn't map onto the actual behavior at all.

    To paraphrase you,
"You're a misandrist, that's the only excuse for why you'd call me out on my bullshit, using scientific observation, and the pragmatic reality that's being reported"

It just doesn't hold up. It's become entirely apparent that real men's issues are less of a concern to MRAs than they are to feminists and the whole facade exists just to make backhanded misogynistic claims, while adopting the style, but not substance of arguments for equality.

One doesn't have to go far into the movement to see it either. While feminists have fought for decades for the mere chance to be front-line combat soldiers, MRAs sites use the lack of a female draft requirement to bitch about women having the right to vote. It's a facade on misogyny, and a flimsy one at that. You're not fooling anyone with your bullshit tu quoque arguments.

And that their actions reinforce the notion that misogynistic beliefs have become endemic to the "culture" of gaming, inasmuch as it has one.

And that actually ties back to Sarkeesian's work, because science has shown that objectified media leads to this kind of hostility and discrimination against women.

People are objecting not because Quinn and Sarkeesian are angels, on a pedestal and beyond reproach, but because there are elements of culture that are causing this problem and standing up against it is the only thing that's going to see change.
