My ATI Radeon 9700 has a DVI out, that when coupled with ATI's component adapter, outputs 1080i upconverted video to my 57" HDTV. It's pretty easy these days to send decent video from a PC to a TV. And if the source video is high enough quality, it looks damn good!
Suit yourself. I'm 30% deaf, and would do just about anything to be able to clearly hear people talking to me. I'd give up 30% of my vision to gain 30% of my hearing. Yes, hearing aids are available, but aren't 100% natural sounding (yet).
If you're interested in Accelerated C++, make sure you get a newer revision -- lots of errata in earlier copies:
See http://www.acceleratedcpp.com/details/errata.html for a listing.
I just ordered this from Amazon.ca... hopefully their copy is newer!
