  1. Embracing and Extending XUL? on Miguel de Icaza on Mono, Ximian/Novell, XAML · · Score: 1

In the interview there is a link to MS's Longhorn XAML page and if you compare the code snippets and description to Mozilla's XUL they do appear to be very similar. I'm not sure when Mozilla's and Microsoft's projects were started, but it does certainly appear that MS is "embracing and extending" XUL for Longhorn, by adding proprietary .NET integration. What strikes me as odd, is that it seems like XAML will be totally incompatible with XP and 2K as well (MS touts it as a new Longhorn markup language), so widespread adoption on the internet seems unlikely (at least until XP is phased out...). It seems like Linux/Mono would be on equal footing with XP/the current .NET framework when it comes to handling XAML.

  2. Re:Song of the piracy apologist on RIAA Files 477 New Filesharing Lawsuits · · Score: 1

How about, "I live in Canada, and I have a quasi-socialist government which has passed bad laws regarding online piracy, [c.f. (16),(17)]." Just because pirating is government sponsored doesn't make it a good idea...

In China, for example, software piracy is rampant, and all of the top US software is available for barely the cost of its cds on the street. This is fine for China at the moment, after all, they are screwing US software companies. If they expect to have a huge domestic software industry however, they are going to have reign in the pirates, because no software company will be able to remain solvent by selling software when 100% of its software is available just as easily, and nearly as legally, at a fraction of the price.

  3. Parent Obviously Trolling on VIA Announces Lead-Free Motherboard · · Score: 1

I can't understand how the parent can be modded +5 insightful...

First he makes an odd reference to sheel negceba..."furry artpron", apparently.

Then, he claims that there are "lethal poisons" in capacitors. In fact, according to the wikipedia, capacitors generally contain fairly harmless boric acid or sulfuric acid at worst. Not to mention, I find it hard to believe that there are animals digging through dumps and eating electrolyic capacitors.

Finally, PCB electric transformers have been banned since 1977. I think that we can assume that most power supplies in personal computers were manufactured after 1977 :).

Conclusion: parent is full of it, mod down and ignore.
