1 month ago I just bought my first Apple, a 17" G4 powerbook whit the sole purpose of running linux on it.
First thing I did was to scrap OSX and install gentoo, got everything working pretty easily (light sensors and everyting) on a 2.6.1 kernel.
I primarily develop java and is very comfortable whit IBM's port of jdk.
So for my needs its perfect, the best laptop I ever had, I can only recommend buying one.
