Apple has long acknowledged this issue. It has been in every laptop they have made. The problem is a capacitor in the voltage down-converter.
Previously the down-converter was in the top of the clamshell, but now it has been moved to the bottom case near the motherboard.
You can hear the same hiss/hum from the ballast in a florescent light. Since the backlight on a LCD is really just a thin florescent light.
If the issue is exceptionally bad, and easily reproducible you can send the machine into the depot for repair, worst case scenario you will not have your machine for up to 7 days.
Since the Newton and iPaq both use StrongARM processors, wouldn't it be an easy port if one had the source code? I think that would be more interesting than Linux on an iPaq.
Poseidon Digital is releasing a Hughes system and dish at the same time as the bidirectional service becomes available. It is gyro stabilized and digitally locked so it will work in very rough seas. It includes a computer system that works perfectly in the marine environment too. If you have questions you can email me at killion@poseidondigital.com.
Yes we have a system that will be availble in October, we cannot release too much data about the dish. Hughes provides the satellites and the datalink but the dish is custom for marine use. In short you can have cable modem/DSL speeds anywhere on the 7 seas.

So I assume that the numbers get added to the page when it is rendered on the server side. Is this some sort of Apache plugin?
