I really don't see how a GUN could be considered less dangerous than a pogo-stick - even if you fell from a distance of six feet, that's almost certainly bound to be less damaging than taking a bullet. Lots of products, toys and otherwise, are dangerous. Take Rollerblades for instance. That company's hardly been sued out of existence, but the number of people admitted to emergency rooms on their account is astronomical. Or what about cars and motorcycles? The manufacturers' responsibility is to build them properly, but the people who use them are expected to abide by common sense and safety regulations.
