The author says that Linux is not "terribly good at doing something because it is not!" This kid has obviously never stepped into a data center - never mind worked in one. Just about every other fact is wrong as well .

Actually I don't watch Fox News or any main stream media for that matter. Maybe if I watched/read the NYT, CBS news or The Guardian I would be more "enlightened"? I do love the fact that any main stream media that differs from the left wing line such as Fox is immediately labeled as ignorant, liar, etc.

Another point is that France, Russia, China and the UN were stealing billions in the Oil for Food Scam. They will never give their OK to remove their sugar daddy Saddam. And why the fuck do we need the OK of some bureaucrats in Brussels or the UN. Maybe so France can brag how they held everything up like they did in Kosovo while more innocent people died?
You really need to give your shoulders a good tug and pull your head out of your ass. There is this great thing out there called Google that lets you find all sorts of stuff out. You can find at http://www.google.com while there you can click on the news tab and read all sorts of things that you would never read in the Guardian.

I also remember praying that the program will finish running on my IBM PS2 before class started. I hated Fortran so much that it turned me off from computers for years and I have always loved them since I got my first VIC 20 when I was 9. I'm just writing about it and I need a towel for my cold sweat and half a bottle of Advil for my migraine!
I've done exactly what you are trying to do. I have even installed VOD in 600+ room hotels. For both I used Main lobby and it's add on DVD lobby though heavily customized for the hotels. This is by far the coolest and slickest software out there.

I've also worked a lot with Mario and Dan (the owners) and they will answer all your questions. To add a movie you only have enter the UPC code or you can create your own menu system - my preferred method.
If you want to save some money on software and want to build it yourself there are a number of linux based solutions. The two best, IMHO, are MythTV and MyHTPC. Both are very powerful and flexible but require a lot of work to set up.

Lastly you should familiarize yourself with Girder. It's a program that lets you program your remote anyway you want to. It very powerful and you can add logical programming to the remote so it acts differently in different situations or apps. It was free until a couple of months ago but now it's shareware. You can still find the 3.2.9 version(free)and it works great. http://www.girder.nl/
As for remotes I have a lot of success with the StreamZap remote. You can find it in many computer stores such as CompUSA.
