Thank god Real isn't supported on any portable format. (that I can think of right now). I consider RealNetworks far worse then Microsoft. I burn just thinking of them.
Their website alone, should scare anyone off. When your trying to download the free player and have to go on an epic quest to find it. Or they have hidden checkboxes to sign you up for things.
I'm very much against this, if I don't want to be safe, thats my problem. If a doctor says I need anti-biotics for something, I'm not required to take them.
I understand that kind of thinking can hurt other people when my machine is on a network, and in my laziness my machine becomes infected and starts a DoS attack and such. But still, not every machine is on a network, and I don't want to have to pay for the extra security.
Ha, your right. How could I have forgotten about that.
Nothing like giving people a false sense of security.
They do the same thing in the military with the MOP suits. (the chemical protection suits you see the soliders wearing, mask, boots, etc). I was a NBC (Nuclear/Bio-Chemical) Spec. in the Army, and at the end of NBC schooling they told us the suit would basiclly only allow you to live a few hours longer if you found yourself in the immediate radius of a chemical attack.
Enough time to shoot your buddy and put him out of his misery, call back to base and warn others, and then either shoot yourself or ponder life until you die.
That would be an interesting and rewarding project. You know, doing it for the children and all.:)
I would probably be more interested in doing it with Java. But if you have skills in Flash, then by all means I've fine with that as well.:)
According to one report, workers were desperately sealing the doors with duct tape...
I'm looking through the The Jumbo Duct Tape Book on Amazon right now, and don't see any section on using duct tape to seal off biohazard doors... maybe they are saving that for the second edition. Duct Tape: 101 Nuclear and Biochemical Warfare Uses!
Those are some nice games, thanks for the heads up.
I'm gonna check those out more in depthly tonight.
I haven't seen anyone truly dedicated to it. But I've taken some old children games I use to play in DOS and Win 3.1 and rewrote them in either Flash or Java w/ SWT, so he could play them on Linux.
Ah.. I doubt it. Nobody says you can't be a computer geek, love sports and get the girl.:)
I ran a BBS running Telegard and sometimes PCBoard all through out highschool, wrote door games for Legend of the Red Dragon, but still played football, and dated a hottie.
Speaking of which, I should get a hold of her, with the impending doom of this 100ft asteroid coming, maybe we could have a romp on the last day of civilization.:)
He can't read, but he does know how to get around in KDE. He knows how to use XMMS enough so he can play songs from the playlist, and play some of the games KDE comes with.
I use to have my box running Gentoo and he was use to playing around with KDE, then I went back to XP for work and game related stuff, and he misses the games he use to play.
The other day I installed SuSE on my machine I'm building for my four year old. I bought the professional version of it for $80 at Best Buy, and was blown away. It was the easiet install of any OS period.
The two manuals are beautiful. It comes with six cd's and a DVD with everything the six dics have. Talk about going out of your way for the customer.
The first product I ever bought for Linux was VMWare, so I could test my Java applications on a Windows platform with relative ease.
I think a lot of "cross-platform" type products for Linux would sell quite well. Like a emulator specificly for games, with a guarentee it'll play 99.9% of the Window games on the market. That would be a huge sell.

Why Linux for my son? I first had Gentoo Linux on my machine, but had to go back to XP for work related reasons. He hated Windows.:) He's very happy to have his KDE interface and Gnome Stones back.
I wish I knew man. Do you have any idea? I know "Funny" mods don't help your karma, but I didn't think they hurt you. It sucks, my last three posts are invisible to most.

Parenting Group officially releases "Lawsuit 2: We're back"
Developed by world-class lawyers and parents that want to blame everyone else for their children problems, will be exclusively targeted at GTA: San Andreas. The lawsuit is expected to be released in North America on October 20, 2004.
Apple and Motorola would be the dominate force and be referred to as A$ or Approla.
Microsoft/Intel would be the chic system, and would have zealots just like Mac does today.
And Linux would probably be close to the same as it is today. The underdog, coming out of leftfield to dominate it all.

Let the processor do the processing.

"If they have both, tell them we use Linux. And if they have that, tell them the computers are down." -Dave Chapelle
Love your Chapelle quote btw, you know Linux is breaking through when it makes it onto the Chapelle show. But he's a pretty savy computer guy himself.
"I'm Rich James, bitch!" -Chapelle as Rick James

I'm afraid the same with happen to Enders Game once it reaches the screen. But like you said, hopefully some will go read the excellent book.
:)
I don't know how many know this, but Ender's Game is on the Marine Commandant's List of Recommended Reading. After reading it, I see why.

Sure, I'll bundle them up tonight for ya.

Ha. :) It's been moved into the closet and using a KVM switch so only the monitor and keyboard will have to put up with the abuse.
:)
You should have some kids someday, one benefit is you get to be a kid again yourself.

This is also the state that wanted to make Feng Shui a requirement in every CA office.

Thanks for the follow up! I guess I won't try and be funny anymore. I have to say I really dislike this side of the moderation.

Everyone I've known that has learned the command line first, then GUI were usually better users overall. They understood the underlyings better.
Just like when I teach a new developer HTML, I dont let them start using a WYSIWYG app, I have them learn by hand in a text editor.

I'm so glad I work in a very small company.
