You namby-pamby we will not take away my rights to own a weapon, I will not give in. I am a free man, born and raised in a country settled by free men who came in with guns and killed most of the free men that were already here killing each other with sticks.

The point isn't whether guns help defend you against any particular form of attack, or if they're dangerous to have around, or if some people will use them to do horrible things to each other (you forgot to mention in another post that the recent "armed massacres" in Africa were mostly accomplished with clubs and machetes rather than guns)... the point is, are you going to be a free man and take responsibility for trying to make your community a safer place with actual work and communication? Or will you give in to the chickenshits who would trade your freedoms for "safety" under the oh-so-protective wing of legislation?

Yes, the simplicity is the key. Once you know your way around *nix, and you realize that you can accomplish anything system management wise with (ls, cp, grep, awk, sort, etc.) you just want all the cruft out of your way so you can comprehend how the entire system works (at least I do). Slackware is the only major Linux distro that accomplishes that for me (the BSDs are also nice this way).

And Slackware doesn't pull any of this "Let's just put in the library binaries and leave out the header files" crap that causes so much grief for newbies trying to compile under RedHat, et al.

Plus, it doesn't require Perl... heck even FreeBSD requires Perl nowadays (I think).

The U.S. governments do not place any blame on minorities, a public official who said any such thing would likely be canned within the week. Racists who do blame minorities for their problems are unfortunately common, but not generally in the majority (depending on where you live).

    3. Almost completely bereft of built-in functionality. No text filters, no remote backup, no shell to speak of, nada.

    5. Heir to a huge collection of bloated and expensive software.
    6. Perpetually increasing system requirements, requiring a hardware upgrade on the client side every 2 or 3 years.
    7. The main supported OS for a buggy and again only superficially user-friendly office suite.

So, no... I don't think we can convince a fortune 500 that Linux is a viable OS for use on the desktop.
