  1. About the concept of "IETF drafts".... on IETF draft on different IPv4 addressing scheme · · Score: 1

    Please note:

ANY madman can at ANY time send ANYTHING that looks approximately like an internet-draft (that is, it conforms to the format guidelines), and get it published as such.

That's part of the "open IETF process".

This draft is a clear indication that it's working as designed.... it's total nonsense, as far as I can see, but got published.

    No censorship.

  2. Re:what makes NT faster? on NT vs. Linux: Again · · Score: 1
The only place on the curves where Linux was above NT were for just a few clients serving SMB.

This indicates that the Samba context switches may indeed be significant.

  3. SETI@Home is still overbooked on SETI@home & RC5 · · Score: 1

According to the technews, they generate 15.000 blocks a day from the tapedrives.

According to the stats, it takes each of the 600.000 users about 1 1/2 CPU-days to process a block.

So they generate 15.000, and consume about 400.000 units per day. Go figure.

My computers stay with PrimeNet until they are overbooked by less than a factor of 3. (but THEN I'll be back!)

  4. Fast = FTPSearch, MP3Search et al on New Search Engines · · Score: 2

    This technology isn't very new.
Parts of it at least were developed at the Norwegian Institute of Technology, and used in the search engines FTPSEARCH and MP3Search.
But it's really nice to see them get the publicity they deserve.

  5. TM = Turkmenistan on WIPO, TLDs and Trademarks · · Score: 1
TM is the ISO country code for Turkmenistan,
and is therefore allocated by IANA for that
country to decide what to do with.

Rumours say that some time ago, the goverment
handed control of the .TM domain to a company that
sells names (see http://www.nic.tm/); after a while the government took rather drastic action wrt some of the sites registered which were rather incompatible with the views of the Islamic government of Turkmenistan.

The .tm domain is now closed for new registrations.

  6. WIPO recommendations are for real on UN discusses new rules on Internet domain names · · Score: 1

    This is real. Very real.
Check out http://wipo2.wipo.int/ for the details; there's a 150-page document (WIPO RFC-3)on just how people should be able to take domains away from each other, and why.

If anyone's in Singapore on Friday, go see the WIPO at work.
