I think you are speaking cr%p, you are a victim of generalization, rot in hell!
Now my reasons for saying this are below...
1. I work for a Australian ISP, i have had to keep a good eye on what has been happening in regard to net legislation in Australia, for this i have gained this information... its reliabity is limited to that of the reporter that gained it, all who work for major Australian Newspapers.
Firstly there are numerous Banks and other Financial Institutions within Australia that have stuck there hand up and told the Australian Government that they do not like then legislation. What does a bank have to gain out of the proposed government legislation ?? perhaps a fair bit, as a lot of ISP's whould have to spend quiet a few pennys to get some servers capible of looking after umpteen process's per minute at a proxy box running a List of banned sites to search through every time someone accesses a web site...
Secondly, the Liberal Party of South Australia (a state) has voiced its disagreement to the legislation that has been passed and will be put into law as of 1/1/2000.... (for all of those that know next to nothing about Australian Politics, which i assume is most of you, the Australia government is a Coalition, the Liberal part (the dominate) and the National Party making up the Coalition)
Thirdly, it has taken a while, but more and more people are finially finishing there studies into the legislation, i expect to hear of more and more companys coming forth and telling the Australian Government how F@$#ing stupid its legislation is. Big Business is not for the Bill, they no as much as the ISP's know, it will do nothing but hurt the Australian Part of the Internet.
I thing you should all take a good look at this new censorship crap coming in and think of the effects it could have on you and your internet
Get a piece of paper, get the dimmentions of the room and the area that you could put your pc desk into... Next... Get a program like autocad/something simpler and figure out what you need in the way of space, not just on top of the desk, but draws etc... then build it
Nothing will ever meet your needs as well as something build and customize yourself.
>Is this the end to that problem? Pretty soon the software will learn to understand variations in language. >How close is Star Trek?
What if it was here already, its just that you havent had a chance to look around and notice it, i believe we are almost there, with the new propulsion drive that some uni has made we are really getting somewhere...
I better not start...
Anyways back to this chip, i cant wait to get one:)
But somehow, on my salary, i dont think ill be getting one till there out of date...
Ok, lemme give you some background to this firstly... About 6 months ago i had a very interesting chat to a fellow i know that is one of the most paranoid people i have ever meet, during the chat he came out and told me that intel had developed a trully AI cpu, so i figured that this is possible, but not probible.. so i just went on with my averages days rat race...
Now, with all this talk about what transmeta is doing, although i do like the idea about Paul Allen paying them to play in a building and see what they come up with, i dont think so. So what the hell, lets thing about this now, you want a processor that can do X86 and all the other types of processers, what is one kind that could trully manage that.. A living one, one that could identify and implement instuctions relivant to each diffent type, if/when it is asked to.
Im not saying this is what there doing, im not saying that intel have a trully AI Chip, but wouldnt it be bloody neat if they did.. Bring on Judgement Day! (For all those Terminator 2 Fans out there)
I wonder who will notice the transmeta page is up first when it does come up, and if it will last long when the slashdot effect hits it:)
>So what can we do? Hassle them! Hassle them to death! Make sure that every Euro politician knows that >he'll have to face election as "The guy who's trying to censor the Internet". Or even better "The guy who's >trying to let Brussels censor the Internet for us". Politicians hate that stuff -- anything which appears to be >"complicated" or "unpopular" tends to be avoided.
>Start creating the impression that it is technically impossible to censor the Internet. If I were really >Machiavellian, I would suggest "extending" the META tag formats into a million and one incompatible >versions, so that the keyword approach wouldn't work. But just suggesting to non-techie bureaucrats that >it's a technological nightmare will suffice to raise millions of "issues" which slow the whole thing down.
Ok, sounds fair enough, but let me introduce some problems.. I watched what happened when the Australia ISP's and the EFA (Electronic Frontier of Australia) attempted stop the Australia Government from blocking porn. Here are some things i think you should take into note before taking any action like this.
1. Politians know as much about the internet as the typical user of it... that being squat. Does that effect the way they handle the situation... No. When you tell a politian that if he votes for this, that you will attempt to make his re-election impossible, he wont really care.. the reason for this is that he knows that most people dont have a clue about what goes into blocking porn. Thus he knows that if he is seen to be doing the right thing by voting for this legislation, then he will. The Australian politians did, hell most of them didnt even look at the legislation when they passed it, they where told it was a good thing, thus they passed it. Australian ISP's tryed to educate these politians but failed.
2. When you go out to make someone thing that something is really technical and almost impossible to do, they aint gonna care. They dont have to do it... the service providers do... the content providers do.. they dont.
3. Politians will do anything that makes them look as if they are caring for the community. Thus like in the case of the Australian content legislation, they will ignore all research into the matter and pass the legislation anyways.
I think what we need to come up with, more than anything else, is publicity, if any of those above tactics are going to work, you need to world to know about them, that is the thing that was missing with the Australia legislation, there was too little publicity, and because of that i feel that the legislation got through.
Nothing will be achieved without we worlds media paying carefull attention to this, this needs to be given serious air time.
On the technical side of things... people call the internet the World Wide Wait at the moment, i dont want to see what there calling it when everything there viewing has to go through proxy servers/"content protection servers" on the major backbones. I dont thing there is a computer in the world you could stick on a OC12 and get it to check every page that went through that lovely biyt of fiber.
Ok, what i was advised to do when i was a contracter for a marketing company, was to put 30% a way i tend to recall... but ask the tax peoples.. you will have to be paying off hecs as well so you will probly be paying about 300$ a fortnight in tax.. with hecs included...
But once again, get your white pages out and check for you local tax scum.. and go visit them.. they will give you all the information you need
If i was in that position i would be looking at getting some permanent staff, the beauty of it is that the person/people that start the pages always know exactly what they where doing with it and how they wanted it to appear.
This keeps the same appearance running though the whole site, and you could find someone as dedicated as the webmaster for slashdot has been...
All in all, i think that if you find someone who is a talented and skilled web designer, then you should atleast try to make a perm position for them within the company... I personally am fed up of seeing pages that have no set idea though the whole thing, changing from frames to tables to whole different styles.
Whats the M2 page, and what is the deal with only some people being able to access it ???? As in is it for the posters only, or is it for all non anonymous cowards... ??
The reason for this piece of government bullcrap is because the government in Australia decieded that they must appear to do something about the amount of porn freely flowing onto the internet. The people in our government (the Australian Government) even ignored the findings of our government run research organization (CSIRO) who told them that it could not be done.
Thankfully, Peter Coroneos and the IIA have made this law something that can be worked on. A lot of ISP's in Australia thought they where doomed until someone came up with a code that can keep ISP's more or less, government legislation free.
Hell, i work for a Isp that uses linux servers.. i know how wonderful linux is especially in this enviroment, and we only have to reboot the servers when some of the more load intensive box's get to 2 months to 100 days then crap out..
But hey.. ill be the first one to say that id like to see NT do that... i know it couldnt
I did not say that it cannot running non ms products.. i said the problems are caused by software that was not made as well as it should have been for the Windows operating system.. I then later after the first response to what i said noticed i had not included anything about hardware problems, which you can see was posted before you meantioned it so im not just taking it from your other post on this topic
Ok ok, in a perfect world there would be none of these BSOD's, but we do not, thus these problems are usually caused by incompatability, whether it is hardware based or software based.. to extent on of my last points further, i run a win98 system at home, i can burn cd's on it after its been up 1 week without a problem, and thats with a ide burner.. to a lot of my friends.. that is impossible. Perhaps its because i dont by sh^tty hardware...
I know this is starting to look like im making excuses for Microsoft, but you just stop and think about how many pieces of hardware there are on the market, now each of those bits of hardware have there own instructions on how to work, each atleast slightly different from the others... Windows has to handle almost ever type.. it handles a hell of a lot more that linux does..
I think your speaking sh^t, ive had uptimes on my win98 box of over a week.. now i know that aint as good as Linux, because i run a linux gateway at home and well it just seems to keep going and going... but that aint the point... I dont know what you people do to your windows 98 box's but its the same with any computer.. you load it with crap and programs not made well enough and not made by the company that made the OS and suprise suprise, the thing dies in the arse.. if you go and get a windows 98 box, dont install anything on it and leave it sitting there.. works fine for ages and ages..
There are a lot of people out there endlessly knocking a operating system that really doesnt have any challangers.. Linux is not ready to take on windows in the commercial battlefront, Microsoft know that which is why they arent advertising there products for anything but there releases (in australia atleast).
Ok, to sum up.. i think most people out there are bashing a operating system that does not deserve it, windows mainly dies in the arse when you install to many programs from companys other than microsoft.. those that in my opinion could have been made better. All for all of you out there that bash Windows for no reason except "its cool" SHUT UP!
Yeap it is, they where showing them off at Brisbane's Big Boys Toys show early this year...
