  1. Comic Book Guy on Simpsons Actors on Strike · · Score: 1

Another strike over money. This is why I lost respect for the MLB. In the words of Comic Book Guy: "Worst...strike...ever..."

  2. Anyone think of battery life? on NYT: The New Breed of Gaming Laptops Get Serious · · Score: 3, Insightful

Did anyone notice if battery life is mentioned in that article? Because if it is, I couldn't find it. While a laptop is nice and portable, is a laptop with a one hour battery life really practical? Unless you're hardcore for the LAN parties, I don't think this is really useful. For the $2000+ you spend on a gaming notebook that, with the exception of the Alienware (I think you can upgrade the video chipset), you're stuck with what you buy. At least with a $2000 desktop, you can change out parts in three years when it becomes obsolete.

It's good to see an indidual with some integrity in the world today, to actually go out and buy a product instead of just cracking it. Trouble is, not everyone is like that. In fact, a good bunch of people aren't like that. Why would they go out and buy something they can get for free? I'm sure that if someone could testdrive that car then take it home without having to pay for it, they'd do that in a heartbeat. That's not to degrade the portion of people that do buy after downloading. It just seems, to me anyway, that they're fairly rare.

  4. Re:White headphones on iPod: This Season's Must-Have for Muggers · · Score: 1

I wouldn't go so far as to say that all earbuds are crap, but you do need to spend some green to get the good stuff. My Sony EX-71s sound really good and are only $50. They're noise isolating and put out a surprising amout of bass for 9mm drivers. You can spend upwards of $500 on a pair of studio quality Shure e5c's, too. That said, compared to a good set of over-the-ear cans, they really don't stand up. But then, I typically listen to my 'Pod in places other than my home and stowing a large pair of studio monitors is less than convenient.

  5. White headphones on iPod: This Season's Must-Have for Muggers · · Score: 3, Insightful

I don't really understand the need to use the stock headphones anyway. Is using the white ones meant to be like a staus symbol? Sure they sound better than most earbuds that come with CD/MP3 players, but there are much better one's to be had, provided that you don't mind paying a little bit for them. In fact, I've yet to take the white ones out of package they came in.
