To produce a PDF from Word, do File>SaveAsPDF. Or click on the "ToPDF" button on the toolbar. Or File>Print>PDFWriter. This has been present since Word97. The last technique also works with every other windows app.
PS. the PDF functionality comes as a plugin, rather than being incorporated monolithically into the main program. Also, you pay for it.
