Subject really says it all.
All this open source stuff is for the birds, though I'll admit to raiding a few open source projects for ideas. But damned if I'll use there code. Most of it is C or heavily abused and obfuscated C++.
If you want something that's fast and works great, no matter what OS; then you're going to have to pay for it. There's a whole different paradigm when you're writing something to earn a living and writing something for free. You just don't have the same accountability... period.
