  1. Re:AMD and Intel have a cross-licensing agreement. on Intel Potentially Reverse-Engineered AMD64 · · Score: 1
I think that Intel keeps AMD around so that it doesn't have any of the monopoly problems that Microsoft has had.

Also, because they have the cross-licensing agreement, Intel can spend more of it's R&D dollars towards other areas in which they are heavily competing against another company and let AMD develop the x86 platform. AMD holds most of the PC enthusiast's loyalty so Intel not developing the top of the line first won't ruin or really even hurt Intel's market share.

This shows not how AMD is gaining momentum, but that AMD and Intel are extremely close to each other and the x86-64 extentions are not going to make any difference in the long run.

I was running McAfee (registered version) on a computer with WinXP for less than a year when I (not McAfee Antivirus, actually I think my ISP called and said my comp probably has a virus on it) found a virus on it.

I went and got Norton (from work it was free) and put it on this WinXP computer and an older WinNT 4.0 computer (90 Mhz).

The WinXP (with McAfee installed) had about 60 viruses on it (way to go McAfee AntiVirus).

The WinNT (which went about 7 years without virus protection) had 1 virus.

Between you and me, nothing is better than McAfee!

  3. $2000/year would ruin free email on SpamHaus Behind .mail Top-Level Domain · · Score: 5, Insightful

Do you think that Yahoo! or Microsoft's Hotmail would pay that $2,000 just so people could send email from them. Would smaller free e-mail companies even be able to afford it?

Even if those free email places did pay for a .mail domain, would that stop spam? How much spam do you get already that comes from Yahoo! or Hotmail or some other free email survice.

This would either get rid of free email or let spam live, both while closing down the small free email services. I don't like either option, we should do something else.

I don't know where you go to get MS Office, but I got my version (MS Office 2003 Pro) from the MS website for $20 (American).

I take girls on dates for about that much, I can't really see how it is expensive.
