Oddly enough, the same Creative that considered "encrypted speaker output" to inconvenience pirates and defenders of the free world also released a tool (bundled with a lot of their sound cards) that would defeat it! I believe it's called the "Creative Recorder" (-25 points for originality). In any case, it could record audio from a variety of sources, including direct ripping of the audio currently being played by your sound card! With a tool like that, you wouldn't even need to crack the encryption to get flawless digital copies of your music!
A few years ago, I was learning OpenGL and purchased earlier versions of both the books mentioned above. However, neither of them proved half as useful as NeHe's OpenGL tutorials (http://nehe.gamedev.net); this site is probably the best place on the web to learn how to use OpenGL.

Why restrict yourself to AM/FM radio and TV? There are so many Internet Radio stations via Shoutcast, etc., that most people can find several stations they really like.
