The TV shows are just as big of an advertisement as the commercials. TV shows are ads to get you to watch the commercials. When the content providers (Timewarner, Comcast, Cox...) finally offer a la carte pricing and people pay for what they want, you will see a major shift in the quality of the shows and in the commercials. Just look at HBO. Right now tv shows are made to sell advertising space, but in the future I think tv shows will be made to support themselves based on subscription services.
When the article talked about small furnaces to boil water to turn small turbines for homes I instanlty thought of Atlas Shrugged and how "the engine" could revolutionaize the world. Would be something if this really works.
802.11b with parabolic grid antennas is possible up to 20 miles, if you get it high enough. Smaller anetnnas can easily go 5 miles at 11mb/s. This has been around for 5+ years, why did this story get posted?
I worked for an ISP and we did alot of IP blocking, whole countries, entire classes of addresses. Whatever it took to stop the onslaught of spam to our mail servers and our users. It dosen't make sense to add more mail servers, just to combat spam, when you can block a set of addresses and cut the load on the servers in half.
I have a 2000 VW Passat with the 1.8 Turbo engine. I get average of 32-33 city/highway. If I do all highway I can get 35-38mpg. I would be very upset if I bought a hybrid and I didn't get way better gas milage for the sake of a sporty feeling car. My car isn't a sports car but the little thing can scoot pretty good for how fuel efficent it is.
Rolling Stone doesn't know music. Why do they know the technology industry?

I thought it was April 1st when I saw this headline.
