> Bill Shupp's patch plus Matt Simerson's Mail-Toaster Perl-library still make a difference.
I totally agree. Shupp has made installing qmail a breeze; just follow the bouncing ball. The patches that are included, along with supplementary programs, makes for a very strong server. Maybe my needs are meager, only a couple hundred users, but this install was painless if you followed the instructions. I manage 6 other qmail installs and each one started off as a 'Life With qmail' installs and I've since migrated them all to Shupp Toasters. Management, for me, is a joy and I enjoy the simplicity of it.
I also want to point out that qmail is just a 'tool'. If that tool makes you productive by all means use it. If it doesn't then look for a better tool. And if you've found a tool that works for you, spend more time enjoying how that tool is saving you time instead of wasting that time bashing someone else's tool.

Then I realized I have some code to debug.
should play less World of Warcraft.

You can also use 'svc' to send the ALRM signal:
# svc -a
