There are good reasons to discount microsoft's media products as useless, but "they don't have the market share" is *not* one of them!
That's funny, because market share still is the premium reason to dismiss Apple's products...except the iPod. Please stand by while we work hard to dismiss it in other ways.
Could it then, in turn, be the case that ARM is obscure because they are not attracting so much bad attention? Which then may be attributed to better business practices than MSFT or certainly SCO?
People do not run into annoyingly crappy ARM products each and every day. Maybe because ARMs involvement is cleverly disguised - however, I think rather that it is because crappy ARM products are less frequent than annoying Microsoft products.
Point of interest though: ARM is dealing with more a mature technology than intel or AMD - ARM processors don't heat up or do faulty division. Still: why doesn't intel och AMD own a bigger share of this "easy" market?
Apple has contributed back to Konqueror before, so it is not out of the question. Otherwise this is supposed to be an open standard (as real standards usually are...) so Konqueror could add itself later i presume.
For one thing, I am sure Apple want people to download the free iTunes software (free as in free beer that is) and feel the great Apple user experience. Which would not happen to that extent if you could "just as well" browse a less reliable web front-end.
Remember, due to a certain Seattle-based software corporation web browsers are not standardized by far!
However, to you Linux fanbois and fangals, I say with conviction that Apple will not block the web-script, as long as it does not account for a major share of their traffic. And did you know that you can go the other way around and make your own ITMS pages as well?
I gotta say, that's about the smartest remark on this thread yet. (even smarter than this one;-)
There is a pretty OK free RealPlayer for the mac, but including it in Quicktime would in effect create the Real web plugin that's been waiting some time now (no, Internet Explorer 5.1 plugins do NOT count)
Still, Realmedia is an obsolete format, and they're not really on the cutting edge of reinvention either.
This whole story reminds me of when Michael Dell said that "Apple should file bancruptcy and divide the money among shareholders". It's a shame Apple didn't take this free piece of advice from what's only their main competitor...
