  1. Re:Free? on Trolltech to Extend Dual-License to Qt/Windows · · Score: 1

check the faq here basically it means that qt is available under both a gpl license and proprietary one. If you chose the latter you need to pay a fee to trolltec and in return you can sell proprietary qt based apps. With the GPL version you don't need to pay a fee to trolltec but can't sell proprietary qt based apps. ain't that clear?

You can check it on live here http://mirror.fluendo.com/hq/ and download the codec for windows here http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/ and you can find examples here http://www.theora.org/torrents/

  4. theora all the way on Video Formats for non-Windows Users? · · Score: 1

I think Ogg/theora is really a great choice because it's free (beer && speech) and most people that use realplayer10 have it installed already (this is true especially in Europe now that windows is not bundle with windows media player annymore, it's going to be bundle with realplayer :)). Also there is that cool JAVA applet here http://mirror.fluendo.com/hq/ with this you DON'T NEED to have theora codec on your computer, the applet is free and open source too. Plus theora is evolving very quiclky with cool features added every day

http://www.kexi-project.org/screenshots.html/ Kexi is free and it runs on both linux and windows. It also works great with sqlite and mysql. There's also something called rekall but I'm not sure it's free on windows and isn't as actively developed as Kexi is.

Are you talking about Ogg Vorbis or Ogg FLAC or Ogg Speex? Speex is better for that kind of task.
"Speex is an Open Source/Free Software patent-free audio compression format designed for speech" and speex is part of the xiph foundation :-)

IM might potentially be as powerful as email. Yet we're still in the stone age, where everything is still proprietary and where a user of service X can't communicate with user of service Y just like in the pre-internet times. What makes one believe that Yahoo, AOL, Microsoft and others never understood or wished for the Internet as it is today. Hopefully, Jabber is here to save us, or is it? ;)

    decent free beer formats?
Ogg is more than decent, it's the best lossy audio format out there and it's free as in free speech and beer.
How come u don't even know about theora? u suck! are you a windows XP user or what? Why should we care about MPEG that steals our money when we can use free ogg instead? do u work for them or are you just stupid? (guess u have no idea what FLAC and speex are either)

Now we have Ogg Vorbis and Ogg Theora is coming so who gives a shit about that MPEG thing?

Soon we'll be able to broadcast audio and video freely with a system that is 100% mpeg free thanx to ogg and icecast

The MPEG Committee is all about making money, they don't care about a free digital/media world. I only trust the non profit xiph.org foundation. (and if it's DRM u want then go for this :)
