OK, so maybe long-term mars would sustain us humans and plants better. Great. But first don't we need to figure out the best way to, among other things, get there? land there? return from there? Shouldn't we pour some resources in getting to and from the moon regularly so we can design the most reliable transportation system before sending some poor souls into the viod for a few years hoping the calculations were correct?
Also, our new mars 'farmers' will need someplace to live while they get things up and running. So we'll need to design the best shelter for 'em.
Besides, it'd be too much fun watching the moon colony from my telescope!

Why is NASA so gung-ho about going to mars so quickly? Why not return to the moon so we can learn how to sustain our peeps closer to home?
