Probably not that flamy... the vim users know that vim is an editor, not an irc-client. It's only the emacs users wanting to put everything they can do into emacs itself.

Perhaps that Dell aims at users who can fix their laptop by them selves (by publishing complete (dis)assembly manuals on their official site) and Apple aims at the less technical people who want to send it back for every little problem?

Yeah, gentoo might be the distro for you then. But do you realize not everyone has the money and the space (and what about the need when they are not compiling packages?) for 3 such machines?
