    This assumes you know the salt used to compute the hash.

    The arstechnica reply states this explicitly, but I don't understand this assumption.
    How can the hacker be assumed to know the salt?

    Good question.
    In principle, the economy should be able to solve any problems.
    If water gets too expensive, meat will get even more expensive and well, people will have to stop eating meat.

    The problem is that if you go down that road, your laws would have to be written down so precisely that it would actually be impossible to write them down. For example, how would you define "a person"? This suddenly becomes non-trivial. Better to let a judge interpret the law by common sense.

    Not entirely true.

    There is a law that says you can't photograph somebody inside a house (e.g., through a window) or in a similar place which is considered private property.

    And the part of the body under the skirt can be considered to be in a private place.

    You see, it is just how you interpret the law. The judge should do this in a way that conforms to expectations.
    Following the law literally and blindly is not a good idea.

    Actually, it is the opposite.

    Because the Universe can't tell the difference between you and another person, you are both.
    Because you are both, by transitivity, you are everybody.
    Hence, you will never die.

    Here's another idea: why don't we fork science?
    One half of science we let believe that there is life on Europa.
    The other half of science we let believe that there isn't.

    Both halves can proceed with their work, without spending even a dollar!

    Because I like tcsh most.
    However, it has its flaws. For example the glob expansion has a hardcoded limit, which has often failed on me in folders with large amounts of files.
